I've always had a bit of a love-hate relationship with the Twilight Saga, but the second this book came out, I knew that I had to read it. I was honestly blown away by the stark difference of Midnight Sun compared to its companion book of Twilight, but it was such a refreshing read. Edward's perspective puts a lot of not only Twilight but the entire saga into a new light. I had originally wondered why Twilight was so much shorter of a novel, but Edward's thoughts are packed densely into Midnight Sun, and boy does he have a lot of thoughts. But the glimpse into his mind was a welcome change of pace to the series. My personal favorite thing was the fact that we were allowed to witness these brief moments in time where the Cullens' familial dynamic were able to shine through. I'd never been Edward's biggest fan when I'd grown up reading the series, but Midnight Sun may have just swayed me to his team.

The Chemist

Stephenie Meyer

DID NOT FINISH

Maybe this is because I was listening to the audiobook, but this book was just so boring. I genuinely respect Stephanie Meyer for taking on a thriller novel of this magnitude, but it just didn't get me. I stopped about six chapters in, and by that point I had so much medical terminology swirling in my head that it made me dizzy. I grew up reading Twilight, and I was floored when I read The Host, which ended up being one of my favorite books for years to follow, but this book just didn't do it for me, even though I really really wanted it to. I think that conceptually, it's a feat of literature, and I did enjoy the obvious research and attention to detail that Meyer put into this, but dang... it didn't have to be such an arduous read.
