Another one in the shelf of books dealing with toxic relationships, this book is a very watered down version of Flynn's superb Gone Girl.
The characters were neither likeable nor someone you could genuinely feel scared of. Throughout the first half there is a sense of anticipation; you know what's likely to come and when the moment does come, it's so blah! The consequences - non-existent. It was as if once the deed was done (and done so unimaginatively), the author lost all interest in the story and just wanted it to end.
On the flip side, Harrison's narrative, is compelling and you just want to keep reading, reeled by an occasional twist or two. Which is a shame because the book is severely let down by a plot as weak as the Coke they serve at McDonald's.
