Read for Intro to American Govt.

Parody of objectivism, or rather, anti-communist dystopian novels that are too on the nose for their own good. Overall the book isn’t bad, but I think Vonnegut did much better.

Harry, you fool. You terrible and arrogant fool. How you’ve changed my life and led me astray, and, worst of all, never changed your ways. You never learn, do you?

A lot of these stories, especially The Dead, are depressing and borderline relatable with how disappointingly downplayed everything is. Grief and sorrow and diffidence for the world are all portrayed wonderfully, but so subtly that you need to pry at what Joyce is trying to convey. Some of these stories, though, bored me, and a lot of them were great, wonderful reads. I would think I’d like this with better context, and I would return to this after his two following works in order to see what I can get from this series of stories again. Overall, recommended and I think everyone should read it.
