Very cute book! I kinda called the "twist" I guess, but that's just because I was familiar with the symptoms. The homophobia was a bit cliché, but it makes sense for a country town. Was a quick read and the art was super nice. Love the representation as well :D

A beautifully written book with a nice mix of fantasy elements and, in a way, the popular zombie apocalypse genre. I feel like the fantastical lore and history could have been better explained, but that might just be me and my inability to fully grasp onto fantasy concepts in books.

SPOILERS AHEAD: I also feel like the romance was a bit forced and cliche. The plot twist blew my mind, regardless of the fact that I kind of guessed it ahead of time. It was pretty well done!

Regardless, I really enjoyed this book. I absolutely loved the little goat companion. Ryn's relationship with her father is very touching, and I am not embarrassed to admit that it made me cry a bit. There were certain scenes that were so tense I genuinely felt anxious reading them. It's safe to say that I got pretty emotionally invested in this book. I also want to say I love the way Ryn treats the dead. She is very matter of fact with her actions toward them, but she also respects them.

I actually found myself feeling the need to annotate a book for the first time EVER because I Desperately needed my thoughts to be in my copy Forever. Also, I gave my mom my copy of this book to read and she loved it too, so there ya go! It's great for teens and middle aged women alike!

Messy commentary aside, I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I'm really looking forward to reading it for a second time.

based book. love middle earth. the pacing was fucked and random as hell. wish Tolkien had gone more into each individual characters' personality rather than just Bilbo, Thorin, Gandalf, and Beorn. I guess the pacing and lack of character depth makes sense since this is meant to be a kids' book, but ya know. still really enjoyed this book. it reminds me of a nice era of my life lol

good book. really saw myself in the author as a fellow afab trans person. but seriously? the wincest mention? the fuck man lmao

also, honestly cannot remember if there's any graphic transphobia in this book since I read it in one sitting in a Barnes and Noble, but I'm putting a warning for it anyway just in case.

One of my all time favorite books. It's a relatively quick read, and Cajoleas' writing style is smooth and descriptive, making this a very easy book to get through. I will say, I struggled with the beginning of this book on my first read. The narrator's voice just seemed a little too... cliche? to me. Once I was able to see past that, though, the rest of the story really pulled me in. I've read this book twice now, and I know for a fact I will find myself reading it again at some point. Though this story is meant for middle-to-high school reading levels, it is a mysterious and tense coming of age story/murder mystery combo that I would really recommend to any age group.

SPOILERS BELOW:
I find the cult aspect of this book really enjoyable on top of the other mysteries thrown at us. It is always interesting to me when religious themes are twisted into cultish ones. If you enjoyed the religious aspects of Hell Followed With Us by Andrew Joseph White, I definitely recommend giving this book a shot! (Though I have been told that I tend to make connections between media that are completely unalike, oops)

Definitely one of my favorite podcasts! I’m currently listening to it for a second time. I have seen several reviewers criticize QCODE’s Borrasca for being gross and for “relyinf on shock factor.” These are definitely valid comments, but I think Borrasca is still very much worth listening to. It is advertised as being focused on a small town’s urban legend surrounding the dozens of girls who have gone missing throughout the past decade. As the story unravels, a much darker truth is revealed, reminding listeners that sometimes reality is even more terrifying than fiction. QCODE doesn’t give any super specific trigger/content warnings, but they do give general ones at the start of each episode. Detailed trigger/content warnings may spoil the narrative a bit, but I’ll be leaving some below for anyone who may be interested.

List of trigger/content warnings:
- sexual abuse, rape
- human trafficking
- adult language
- drug use
- alcohol consumption
- child predators
- general misogyny

Again, I think this podcast is definitely worth the listen! However, if you’re sensitive to any of the above topics I would advise against listening. Borrasca is not simply a story being retold, but an immersive experience including performances that could potentially be triggering.
