I don't read a lot of historical fiction but this... woo boy! This book deals with queerness in the 1950s during the Red Scare. The parallels to some of the stuff going on today was not lost on me. Chapter 40 - 41 made me sob. I appreciated the ending. I really appreciated the author's notes - it was very clear the Lo did her research for this book, which I always really appreciate for historic fiction.
""You saved yourself," said Vasyl. "I would think that is the most important adventure of all.""
I love this series of books so much, especially the ones that focus on the individual stories of when the children go through their doors. I adored Nadya's story. I'd definitely go where the Drowned Girls go
