This was my first Robin Ha graphic novel and I loved the Korean folklore used within. It was educational to learn about the history surrounding Korea, specifically Korean women and was such an interesting concept. I do feel like the execution of the sapphic love story could have been handled better though. It just felt like a very rushed ending and while the book was already “long” in graphic novel terms, parts of the story felt rushed. I loved the illustrations though and have been meaning to read Robin Ha for a while now.

I did manage to guess some parts of this “murder mystery”, but mainly because I watch too many murder mystery shows and I’m able to look out for the signs, but I do appreciate the twist and turns that took place in this book. It’s been on my radar for a while now, but I’m so glad I finally read it and finally get the hype! I absolutely loved the characters and I cannot wait to read the rest of the series and watch the BBC adaptation.
Although I will NEVER forgive Holly Jackson for that brutal scene.

It took a few chapters to understand the metaphor of the Dream House, but once you understand fully, you realise how beautifully tragic it all is.
I unfortunately relate to Carmen with aspects of her relationship which is something I was fearful of reading about before going into the book, but it just reinforced my mind of what I went through. You think you know the signs of abuse, but you don’t learn what it’s like coming from a woman when you are a woman yourself. I appreciated the historical insight to queer domestic abuse too and how little has been exposed before. I also enjoyed the different genres featured. It felt like the story was only possibly understood through the use of certain genres like Choose Your Own Adventure. I’m so glad I got to read this book and so glad Carmen got her own fairy tale ending in the end.

Thanks to NetGalley I was able to read a proof of this before publication and I am so glad I could read Godkiller and Sunbringer back-to-back. The pacing did feel slow at first but it picked up quickly after a couple of chapters. Inara and Skediceth remind me so much of Lyra and Pan from His Dark Materials that I can’t help but love them. I felt like we did get a lot more Elogast POVs than anyone else, which isn’t a bad thing, I just missed Kissen too much and wanted that reunion to happen. I absolutely cannot wait for the final book and I do feel like I will be a loyal Hannah Kaner reader from now on. I don’t think I have been so hooked on a fantasy series since A Darker Shade Of Magic and I just want to consume so much more of this world and Hannah’s writing.

I could not wait to read this manga after discovering it was about a woman in her 40s! So many manga series follow protagonists in their teens or 20s so it was a really refreshing read! I look forward to the rest of the series!
