This story kept me up all night because I couldn't put it down! (No joke, I couldn't sleep so I started reading this story) It's that good. Sabaa knows the perfect timing to switch perspectives to keep you fully engrossed. I fell in love with these characters, especially Quil and Sirsha. The world Sabaa has created is so rich with complex nations and peoples as well as magical abilities. The way this story is woven together for the ending to be revealed is so masterfully done! I can't recommend this book enough and I need book 2 ASAP!

This story is okay. Not super original, FMC is down on their luck, MMC invites them to their bar they manage. FMC realizes she isn't happy but writing makes her happy so she decides to pursue that. Oh and then realizes she is in love with her friend the MMC.
I didn't like how her friends were tip toeing around her and purposely hiding things from her to spare her feelings. Honestly, they aren't the greatest friends.
The story is just okay. I listened to the audiobook and I think this would have been a DNF otherwise because the story in general is very meh.

The world-building is everything! A forest that demands animal teeth for safe passage, body horror, a looming castle, and the kind of creeping dread that makes you feel the cold air on your skin. 😰
Katrin is an absolute BADA$$! And this was my first book with aro-ace rep, which was handled so beautifully and naturally. 🖤 Don't worry, if you want romance there still is some with some of the supporting characters that is so cute!
The audiobook narration by Kristin Atherton? INCREDIBLE. Perfect match for the dark, brooding tone.

Daggermouth is not the popcorn enemies-to-lovers you might expect walking in. It’s angrier, sharper, and so much more devastating, a dystopian romance that uses its love story to sharpen its politics instead of softening them. Shadera is a phenomenal morally-grey lead, the world-building is suffocating in the best way, and the tension between her and Greyson is the kind that makes you want to throw the book across the room and immediately pick it back up. I appreciated that rather than having Shadera as the princess, it’s the MMC Greyson who is “royalty”.
The twists are never ending! Just when I thought I have it figured out, nope. This is not a HEA with the shocking cliffhanger we got! Maybe in book 2 the good guys will be able to make some progress.
The world building is chef’s kiss! So gritty, dark, and gruesome. The layered city with the dictator and the wealthy folks living at the heart. Despite all the moving parts, this fast paced story is not difficult to keep it all straight. That ending I’m still thinking about weeks later. I’m so happy Simon Maverick picked up this independently published book!
I listened to the audiobook and the duel narration is incredible! Teddy Hamilton and Angel Pean were a perfect fit for this story.

After reading Across the Vanishing Sky I have been eagerly awaiting this release and I was not disappointed!
Nova’s journey hit deeply personal for me. Watching her reckon with the fact that trauma fundamentally changes your identity brought up my own identity crisis and the grief that comes with letting go of who you once were. She’s not trying to go back to who she was, that person no longer exists. She’s trying to figure out who she is now.
I loved that Kol doesn’t try to fix her. He stands beside her, offering tools like grounding barefoot in nature to ease her anxiety. And the nickname Phoenix? The way he celebrated every step of her growth with that name absolutely wrecked me.
Cowles also beautifully captured the complexity of Nova’s friendships and loved ones learning to embrace who she is now without smothering her.
If you love romance that doesn’t shy away from the real, messy work of healing, this one’s for you!

The slow, insidious creep of his manipulation, the way he chips away at her piece by piece, is portrayed with a painful authenticity that will resonate deeply with anyone who has lived it.
Nature is the quiet heartbeat of this story. Resau uses the landscape to mirror Callie's healing in the most stunning way. The river, the poppies, the whispering olive trees feel almost alive. The Great Outdoors is the kind of contemporary romance that sneaks up on you with unexpected depth. Kayla Olsen crafts a story about Sadie’s journey to rediscover herself after being dumped for being “too high maintenance” but this isn’t a simple feel-good read. It’s genuinely moving.
What I loved most was watching Sadie dig deep and take every new experience in stride, using the hiking adventure as a personal turning point rather than just a backdrop for romance. Her growth feels earned, not forced.
Thorn is that rare romantic interest who grows with her, respecting her journey while being genuinely supportive and kind. The pacing is done well, the book held my interest the whole time. A week hike keeps things intimate and grounded as well as being realistic.
The found family element among the program participants is beautifully done, and the natural progression of Sadie and Thorn’s relationship feels right. My only real gripe? There’s some miscommunication that I find wasn't necessary. Still, this book surprised me in the best way! Made me miss my through hiking days.

There is something about being able to immerse myself in nature and disconnect from the outside world as you stand feeling so small compared to the giant mountain top views. Don't even get me started about the fresh an air and smell of the trees around you!
