An exorcist’s assistant takes her first solo case, only to discover the haunting isn’t the most dangerous thing in the house… it’s the darkness awakening inside her.
Thoughts:
Dark, eerie, and this story hooked me with its chilling atmosphere and kept me there with the blurred line between good and evil.
Delia’s first solo case spirals into something far more dangerous, both around her and within her. I loved watching that internal struggle unfold. The mix of horror, temptation, and psychological tension was so well done.
This story had so many twists and turns. I enjoyed the demon exorcisms and the personalities they had. I couldn't imagine being in a house haunted by truly evil demons. Just when you think the demons have been exorcised we find out what's really going on!
If you love morally gray characters, creeping dread, and a touch of darkness you shouldn’t crave… this one’s for you. I would categorize it as a dark thriller. I'm so excited to see where this story goes in book 2. Book 2 Sexy as Sin is also now out! I got the chance to zoom with Jennifer, she is soo nice!

This book was not what I expected. A YA fantasy set in the Deep South with roots in mythology.
I love mythology, but these gods aren't like any I've heard of. The idea that they keep reincarnating, always in conflict, got a little frustrating. I wanted them to get over their differences and work together instead, but that just didn't seem to happen. I don't mind tension, but I just wanted it to have a solution and that didn't happen.
The ending was very surprising. This ideology of fate versus what people perceive is an ongoing conflict in the story which does makes sense from a symbolic standpoint since Gem and so many of the gods are nonbinary or trans.
I wanted to see Gem grow and listen to those around them giving him good advice but they keep making the same mistakes over and over of choosing themselves.

This is my favorite type of horror! Strange rabid creatures in the forest, weird cult like figures, and an ambiguous ending.
I loved the use of a podcast to give an outside perspective of what is going on because wow does some crazy stuff happen!
Listening to the audiobook is the way to read this book! The changes in narrator for the podcast hosts made the entire book fell at time like I’m just listening to part of an actual podcast.
My favorite part was definitely the internal thoughts of Lou. If you are a fan of T. Kingfisher, this one is for you!

It was a little far fetched to have Suttons parents to be together despite never having seen each other for 10 + years.
I appreciated the way the characters grew individually and together. Sutton grew way more though then Elijah.

This is very loosely based on Beauty and the Beast, but our FMC has a beast inside that has infected her. I appretiated a FMC who doesn’t need to be protected.
This is very much plot driven. Set in the world as we know it, there is an overlap of magical beings concealing their identity. At times I wish the pace would slow down and more attention payed to the world building, but if you live an action packed read, you will love it!

This is such a true and earnest sapphic love story, highlighting that we can’t control when we fall in love and how and the lengths we will go to, to protect those we love.

I admired Rynn’s dedication as a nurse to caring and protecting her Irish countryman, even though it put her life in danger.
This is a historical fiction so the romance aspect seemed like an after thought instead of being woven through the story.
The audio narration was amazing for this one! If you are a history buff, this would be a good one for you.
