"I got to thinking that poems were like people. Some people you got right off the bat. Some people you just didn't get- and never would get"

Angel Aristotle Mendoza, an angry teen, a sad teen, who suffers from self doubt and has a hard time talking. He missed his brother, whom he never knew and who was now in prison. He missed his father, even if he was right there, he felt so far away, he wanted to talk to him, about the war, but never found the right words to do so. He wanted to love his mother, but he never knew how to do so. Ari was lost in the world of his own thoughts, in his own personal war ("Everyone is fighting their own private wars."). He was lost in the secrets of the universe.

Then Ari met Dante Quintana, an articulate and self assured, who loved art and poetry. A boy who always knew his way around, whom everyone loved to talk to. For him starting conversations was a never problem. A boy who was crazy about his parents. (And he hated shoes

Great book.
I loved how slow yet fast this book was. The entire story unfolds in two days and when you remember that you have been reading about only two days since the last 200 pages, it does piss you off a little but at the same time, the story is fast moving. Loads of small details and additions to the story here and there. I actually loved how you didn’t know who the victim (and the murderer, obviously) was until the last 10 pages or so, so this keeps you at the edge of your seat.
My views on the characters are 50-50%. I’d say that they are too sad and depressing, and sometimes it feels like its just the same person with a different back story.
So base line: the characters weren’t diverse when it comes to their personality. Everyone’s miserable and sad :(
The end felt rushed. I mean, it was complete but the lose ends could have been tied im a better way.

Overall, its a good book. Worth a read.

This book is fine but could have been SO good. The author had a brief idea with where he wanted the story to go but he couldn’t really execute it well. I do get the point that it took him 5 years to write this and was hard but my man, this had so much potential.

I liked the plot to be honest. The character development of Ari was through the roof and I loved that. I wish we had more Dante though. Maybe his POV or just more of him being in the scene.
The characters talk A LOT. I mean who talks that much in real like my man? I found myself skipping a lot of sections and still understanding what the author was going for. Even early on in the book, it was way too slow and I felt like dropping it but I’m kinda glad I stuck through it.

This is definitely not as good as the prequel, but you could read it once just to see where they really ended up.

The amount of times I picked this book and was never able to read past chapter one more than I count. The way this book starts is no fun to be honest. But once you get past a threshold of 50 pages, boom. You can’t keep the book away anymore.
I loved every bit of this (obviously after page 50 or smt). If you’re a sucker for fluffy romance, this is definitely for you. Definitely worth one read.
