Lies my Girlfriend told me by Julie Anne Peters

It's not a cliche but it's deeply corny and I don't know why I expected something different about teenagers in high school. Crazy how everything seems to be larger than life because there is so much that comes after high school.
I did enjoy some moments but there was a lot that should have been handled differently or a little too much like Jos, she's sleeping with an older man. She's 15. Her whole rebellion? I would have liked to see a lot of that resolved. Or her whole "she was MY sister" I deserve her car and cellphone and every single picture you own of her deleted and given to me now that she's dead. Girl?????? Anyway, I didn't like this book.

Implied homosexuality???? Idk
The ending really did me in. Louis ended up losing his humanity though he is a vampire throughout the whole novel. How tragic.

feels like even though i knew this wasn't a guide, still didn't expect to find myself into an average person's average autobiography. Learned so much about her troubles with alcohol and she just seemed like any average person that wants to shop whenever they want. It was actually boring listening to her talk. It was so average, I felt normal. Like we are all going through things.
I particularly enjoyed the friendships she built with people she never met irl until several emails, very refreshing and comforting to know how people still do this: find friendships online. And at the end she talks about feeling like she owed her boss for believing in her but she came to understand that those people don't expect lifelong gratitude, they want to see you succeed. Very comforting. Last few tips she gave inspired me to want to take something on not quite as large as her challenge, sounds a bit restrictive huh?

not that I will prove the following statement in any way: I could have easily written this and other stories...
Definitely read The Short Happy Life in high school.

Reread Update 2020: LMAO can't believe it took me three months to read this the first time. Anyway, should've read my own spoiler bc the conflict doesn't happen until the last 75 pages. Also, Jacob only appears in 3 scenes, what a scam. Anyway, not a favorite book but social distancing is happening and I didn't grab what I needed from the library. So the Twilight series it is.
Forgot how annoying Bella's character is and her and Edward's attachment -- i just don't get it still. Moving on.
Original review 2016: It has taken me exactly 3 months to finish this and the writing is easy, simple. The plot is just too hard (read: cringe-worthy) to enjoy. Some commitment I'm demonstrating wanting to read the entire series. I just feel like I missed out on something pivotal in my generation. Also, the movies make it seem like Bella and Edward had time to become unhealthily obsessed with one another unlike the book that felt like it happened in 3 days.

Absolutely hard book to read, could vividly remember why I quit the first reread.
Have had many thoughts and would choose to be a werewolf, being cold, sleepless, and having to hide from the sun are not qualities I look forward to. Anyway, nothing happens in this book. The "villain" is actually our own demons we face when confronted with the loneliness after the end of a dependent relationship.
Never thought I'd relate to Bella this hard. But we are both Virgos and just went through it.

Absolutely hate this book. I have no words. Something new I'm doing is summarizing the book bc I have the memory space of a green pea.
Seattle has a high rise in murders that all point to signs of vampires at fault for those who know what to look for. Another thing, Victoria is still looking for Bella but the wolves and the vampires have her on check except their boundaries and lifelong enemy-ship is making it hard to capture her. When an unknown vampire is able to bypass Alice's mind, Seattle along with the Volturi's impending visit to assure Bella's immortality is weighing down on the Cullens and Bella heavily. Bella connects the dots, Victoria is behind the Seattle murders that are a product of newborn vampires.
Edward doesn't want Bella to visit Jacob so she has to sneak off. He eventually gives in and accepts that Jacob will be a part of Bella's life and so a peace settles over him. Jacob, however, won't stop fighting for Bella and insists she is in love with him. He kissed her without consent and she shuts down, punches him, breaks her hand and the whole time he thought she was into it, that she wanted it. DISGUSTING. He then realizes his mistake but still. Edward gets angry but will not hurt Jacob.
Rosalie shares her story with Bella in a very intimate setting. Jasper shares his story when it's clear they are going to need to take care of the Seattle newborns themselves before the Volturi come to clean it up and potentially visit the Cullens. Plans change quickly when the leader of the newborns decide they are coming to them. Bella recently learned the Quilete legends and is identifying with the third wife that sacrifices herself to save the ones she loved bc that is all she can do as a human.
Anyway, they partner with the wolves to have a better chance to fight the army of 20 vampires. Bella convinces Edward to sit out the fight with her. (She also wants to experience sex before her human life ends, Edward only agrees once they are married.) Jacob carries her up the mountain, Jacob and Edward have a heart to heart about being there for Bella. Blah blah. Jacob overhears they're getting married and guilt trips Bella into asking him to kiss her by saying he can easily kill himself during the battle DISGUSTING. She falls for it, Edward is not mad at all which pisses Jacob off. The plan goes well except Victoria comes with her partner to fight Edward and Seth to get to Bella. They fail, Jacob gets hurts (Leah is also a wolf now!!!) and the Volturi are on their way. Jane is impressed the Cullens beat 20 vampires, newborns at that, themselves as they sent the wolves away bc truces are frowned upon. They leave with assurances that they knew nothing of the sort (lies) and that Bella will be turned soon, the date is set.
Carlisle treats Jacob, Bella goes and breaks his heart. He agrees to finally be just her friend and admits that Edward is a good man. Bella agrees to tell everyone about their marriage and let Alice plan the wedding. Edward sends Jacob an invitation bc he would like the choice to attend if it were the other way around since Bella chose not to continue to hurt Jacob by not inviting him. Jacob decides to stay in wolf for forever.
Aside: Leah had a dream she kissed Bella bc Jacob is always thinking about her like that. Win!

Bella is reluctant to agree to Edward's marriage proposal bc it's something pregnant women do and loser-like to marry straight out of high school. Edward will not stop insisting, it is his only condition to turning Bella himself. Bella has a deadline not before her birthday, it's maybe March so she has 6 months.Seattle has a high rise in murders that all point to signs of vampires at fault for those who know what to look for. Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer

The end of a saga. It ended a lot better than what I expected and even remembered from the films. It's undeniable the pull I have toward vampires and the like. Bella's transformation is exciting and so new so it was easy to like this book for that but the rest? Rough.
Summary:
The book splits into Jacob's perspective who decides to protect Bella at all costs including declaring himself Alpha and going against his brothers/original pack because whatever is inside Bella, they've decided, is not safe. Leah and Seth soon join Jacob's new pack. Beautiful moments there.
Bella slowly gets better by indulging in what the baby wants: blood. Eventually, it's birthing time. Bella dies though the venom is injected and bitten into her. She struggles to stay completely still while the transformation burns through her because she does not want to hurt Edward by her suffering. Stupid, I hate it here. He's a big boy, he knows the process.
Jacob is ready to kill the baby but when they lock eyes it's imprinting season. The wolves have no choice but to protect Renesmee now. Also, Bella wanted to name the baby EJ if it was a boy after Edward Jacob. LMFAO. Anyway, Renesmee "Nessie" Carlie Cullen is the literal heart of Jacob's and the Cullen's life now. This doesn't last long.
Bella proves to be a lot more natural at the vampire way of life by willingly rejecting the urge to hunt humans on her first day and keeping her calm at all times. She even confronts Jacob when she learns of the imprinting and his stupid nickname for her that everyone already uses. When Jacob learns that the Cullens will have to leave soon to avoid suspicions, he reveals his wolf to Charlie. This way Charlie isn't in danger because he knows about vampires but is at least open to accepting that Bella has gone through a change. Bella, of course, aces this meeting and Charlie is a real trooper. (FAV CHARACTER)
Renesmee grows too quickly and develops a lot faster than normal humans. Charlie accepts this as she is Edward's niece but is too smart to see the resemblance to both Edward and Bella. While out hunting, (aside: she can survive off both blood and human food though blood is preferred) Irina spots her. She immediately presumes Renesmee is an immortal child -- children bitten and turned immortal and are uncontrollable, dangerous, and against the law that binds vampires. Years ago, the Denali's mother created an immortal child and was destroyed but Irina, Tanya and Kate were pardoned as they were proven innocent of their mother's act. Alice sees Irina turn the Cullens in to the Volturi.
Everyone quickly seeks out any other vampires that will stand and witness that Renesmee is not an immortal child. Alice and Jasper abandon the Cullens but not without leaving Bella some helpful advice -- a lawyer that creates fake documents for Jacob and Renesmee to flee from the Volturi.
While preparing to fight, Bella learns she is a shield and can protect others but not without exhaustion. However those under her shield are still unable to read her like Edward still cannot hear her thoughts. When they face with the Volturi, turns out it was all a ploy to divide and conquer the Cullens. They quickly know Renesmee is not an immortal child and pardon them. However, Irina is killed because she is a liar. The Volturi's next reason to attack is the werewolves but again they're just shapeshifters and can control themselves so no fight there. The Volturi decide their next step is to kill Renessme because she is a huge unkown. While Aro, Caius, and Marcus decide on a vote, Bella has had her shield around everyone on her side. Jane and Alec (total sensory deprivation) reach out to blind the Cullen's side, they are unsuccessful and are angered because of Bella's gift.
Alice arrives in time with someone just like Renesmee. He stopped aging 7 years after his birth and can survive on both blood and human food and his venom can turn others but those turned are not able to. When they share Renesmee can't turn anyone (because she's bitten Jacob plenty of times), Aro (the deciding vote) says they will go home. Absolutely no fighting in this book. Wow.
The book ends on a happy note and Bella is able to control her power enough to let Edward hear her thoughts, very special and cute. Happily ever after. Also Renesmee's power is the opposite of both Bella and Edward: she can share/show thoughts rather than read them and no one is unable to be blocked from her power instead of blocking everyone. Cute.

Bella and Edward get married and move to Isle Esme for 17 days, living in bliss and ignoring the outside world. When Bella realizes her period is late, bye bye honeymoon. Edward wants the thing killing Bella out. An unlikely ally comes in the shape of Rosalie, who above all else, wanted a baby as a human. This reason being so rudely ignored in the films. She won't let anyone near Bella that wishes to harm the baby though it's draining Bella of everything. The book splits into Jacob's perspective who decides to protect Bella at all costs including declaring himself Alpha and going against his brothers/original pack because whatever is inside Bella, they've decided, is not safe. Molly is such a likable character and I didn't really expect her to be so likable despite what the blurb said. Don't have much to discuss except it hit a lot of very common wlw feelings and thoughts I myself feel and think but it falls flat in other areas given the time since it was first published.
Never have heard of this book but apparently it's a classic lesbian novel. It has its funny moments and relatable moments, some cringe or downright gasp moment but it was an enjoyable read.

Okay, I think I'm ready for this review.
First, the block text style was not doing this book any favors. I mean I did read it quite quickly but did not grasp anything. Capital letters are used sparingly and quotation marks don't exist. Not my favorite style, definitely reminded me of a poem.
Quick synopsis: k has given her girlfriend, bea, herpes and feels so guilty she emotionally and physically distances herself from bea even though bea is now in the clear and on medication. k even goes as far as to solicit strangers online to infect her with herpes because bea refuses to treat k the same way. along the way, bea is obsessed with natural disaster given that they live in a dystopian-waiting for the Big One- Oakland and k is finding the life of monogamy different than what she is used to.
Really didn't enjoy this book, a lot to take in and nothing felt "handled" or cleared up. The ending is very open but not in the "reader take what you will" but more like "so this is it?" The books tagline is Queer love is healing but I couldn't see this in k and bea's relationship. It wasn't until my book club meeting that I realized that I didn't take the time to think of healing on an individual level. For k, queer love is healing and that after struggling with her gender identity she was easily able to just exist as she is with bea. And for bea the healing comes from being in this loving relationship after questioning if her sexuality arises from trauma or just from within, who she is.
Plot wise I was pleasantly surprised to read about STDs in wlw relationships. It's usually a given when it's a story about homosexual men and often straight pairings, but homosexual women are rarely given that storyline. So it was refreshing to see this go down although it could have been handled much better. The whole time I felt like the herpes was the punchline of this book.
Wouldn't really recommend this book though.
