This book definitely surprised me!!! (In a good way)
While it was obviously directed towards like a fifth/sixth grade, that didn’t take much away from my reading experience!!!
I know a lot of people had problems with how the WLW relationship was treated more “lightly” than the het one, but IMO as long as you go in with no expectations of some sort of superhero Call Me By Your Name, you’ll still be able to enjoy it!
I really enjoyed the world building and I thought the author executed the premise super well!! And the twist?????? OMG. I was expecting the reveal of the villain to be super predictable and IDK if it’s just me, but I did NOT see that coming. I may have cried a bit. Just a little bit.
Overall, this was definitely a great light read and I will definitely be on the lookout for more books from this author!

my dad wanted me to read more "adult" books so i decided to appease him with this. definitely will be reading more from sedaris, this was fantastic, even if some of the humor was a bit too borderline for me. ALSO THE ENDING HAD NO RIGHT TO MAKE ME CRY LIKE THAT
SO CREEPY. WHY WAS I READING THIS AT 11 PM LAST NIGHT.
(Full disclosure, I did skip like a third of the book in the middle; not counting it as DNF since technically I did finish it, but yk.)
Anyways, I think most of my complaints have been noted- the writing almost seems posturing in how "pretty" it's trying to appear, the characters aren't well fleshed out, etc. However, I do disagree with how other readers didn't find it scary LOL!!
