Alexa Donne... WHY DID YOU DO THIS TO ME.
Ok, I know a lot of people didn't like Ivies, but I'm the girl who's obsessed with reading about college admissions, so I did really appreciate that book. The writing style was quick and snappy, and the characters were fun to read about. Which is why I picked up this book- another factor being the gorgeous cover.
The premise sounds so freaking interesting. Royalty?? In SPACE??? A retelling of Jane Austen??? YES PLEASE.
Unfortunately, this book did not live up at ALL.
My issues: the main character having complete ivory tower syndrome but constantly talking about how bad she feels for the poor people, the author's attempt at diversity but it just sounding forced, all the characters just being so WEIRD (the vibes were off I literally do not know what to say, IK other people liked Evgenia but she was just strange to me), the little sister thinking it's completely okay to date the MC's ex, the little sister being SIXTEEN but the MC treating her like a baby, all telling and absolutely no showing, complete white room syndrome (the premise was cool because the world sounded cool, yet Donne apparently had something against describing ANYTHING in this book), and most of all... it's boring. I really don't know what to say except this book was BORING. What was this plot?????? There were so many opportunites to have a cool storyline but this book was literally putting me to sleep.
Ugh. Time to go read The Ivies again so I don't forget that at one point I ever thought that Alexa Donne was a cool writer :(((
