Dedicated fans will appreciate this one. None of the stories are particularly consequential, but they fill in the gaps and answer questions we've all asked. A fun read.

Good to visit with old friends again. I love the idea that Flanagan used questions from readers to flesh out his characters and their adventures.

Going in to this, I wasn't very excited. This close to the end, did I really want to stop and read a series of short stories? And it turns out I did! The penultimate volume, it's a good look back to reminisce about the characters we love. After all, if we didn't love these guys and gals, would we have even made it to book eleven?
Sure, some stories are stronger than others. Yet everyone gets page-time. Some characters (such as Tug) get closure, some characters (Jenny) finally get their chance to really shine, and some (Halt & Crowley) just get those little questions solved that we've always wondered about.

Stories that tie up loose ends for the beloved Ranger's Apprentice characters. Some of them would have made a good novel, but, unlike some authors, Flanagan knew when to end a good thing. And I'm excited to read his new series based on a character mentioned in the last book!
5-10th grades.

I was bored with this book. Some of the stories were enjoyable but others seemed pointless and long.

- They way this book is setup is very interesting. An archaeologist and his apprentice find the remains of a log cabin, and they happen to dig up an old chest with stories about Halt, Will, and the others.
- I really enjoyed this compilation of short stories. It was fun to get a little more about the characters that have become so dear to me.
- Most of the stories are happy and have some sort of celebration, but there was some heartbreak as well.
- I love that some of these stories are answers to questions that readers had. Flanagan is very generous to his readers.
- The first time I read this, I completely missed the little part that introduces us to the Brotherband Chronicles. I thought it was a clever little piece, and I definitely noticed this time.

I loved the series. Absolutely loved it, and it was my obsessing for months. But then, i read this last one, and i didn't need to see halts home in ruins, and i didn't want to find them dead, and i don't care i didn't want to know how rangers' horses never seemed to age. I didn't like this. I found it unnecessary and harsh.

This one just wasn't as interesting. More like the author said "I'm bored... let's get this tied up."
