When I first saw the cover of this book (the one with the girl on front), I was most hesitant in picking it up. But the plot looked interesting and I decided to give it a chance and I'm pretty glad I did.
This book was different and interesting and although there were some things that bothered me, I ended up really enjoying it.
The whole love triangle thing really had me conflicted all the way through, even in the end. Taive was an interesting female lead, and I enjoyed reading her. The plot was something that I honestly couldn't really figure out until the end, which rarely ever really happens with me. Not to mention that my mind was kind of blown sort of, as everything came together.
I'll definitely tune in for the next book.

I liked this book although it reminds me of a lot of other books I have already read and you never really understood the "earthbound" thing. What most annoyed me was that we never got to find out what the flickering was about and you never found out anything about the virus.. hopefully they will cover that in earthquake!! Cause I will read it soon! :)
Original YA paranormal romance. So cool! What Tavia does not know fills lifetimes. Yet she must remember it in order to save - the world probably. As she runs from her past towards her future, the two merge, as they always have. Mystery, intrigue, romance, and paranormal superpowers abound in this fantastic novel. I am looking forward to the next book!
This book started in the most fantastic, suspensive way: teenage girl in plane accident and is the only survivor, and she has nobody but her best friend Benson and her step- aunt and uncle left. I was captivated by Tavia's personality. Her logic, her clever ways, how she dealt with her traumatised brain. I was beginning to think that this book was going to be amazing, but I found myself disappointed as the story progressed.
Let me just say that at this point I was reading other people's reviews on Goodreads to get a general idea as to whether the story picked up nearer the end. Whilst reading some reviews, I found that some people were getting 'annoyed at Tavia losing her logic'. Of course, that's their opinion, but how could you expect anyone to stay sane, never mind stay smart, if they're going through all those things? Sorry, rant over. Just didn't get it?
Throughout the middle of the story, I was, to put it bluntly, extremely bored. The story was beginning to get predictable, the characters losing their personalities, and the story generally became unenjoyable to read by losing it's power and effect it had on my emotions. Another problem was that I was getting confused as the book started getting too busy, as there were too many things going on. Therefore I had to reread an awful lot to get the facts straight in my head and I frequently thought that the author was trying to cram in too many ideas. I found this a shame as the ideas were unique, exotic, romantic, suspensive–the whole package, basically–but they just didn't fit with the storyline. Whilst on that note I must mention that the general plot seemed all over the place because, as mentioned above, the ideas just didn't fit. By this point I was even considering giving up the book entirely.
Aren't I glad I didn't! During roughly the last 50 pages, I found what I had experienced at the beginning and more: shock-horrors, anticipation, and overall excitement as the true story unfurled.
This book was hard to rate as I had experienced a fantastic novel at both the beginning and end of the book, but a stupid, confusing fantasy throughout. I gave it 5/5 as I felt the magical twist and the general feel to the story deserved it, despite my hard feelings towards it nearer the middle. One thing in particular I liked which I mustn't forget to mention is how well-written it is: the description and overall language is flawless, which strangely is a reason why I didn't give it up in the stages of it I didn't like.
Overall, a good read. I'd say the genre is romance, slightly fantasy and a bit of a mixture between horror and adventure. Average age group 12+. Includes graphic descriptions that may not be suitable to a younger age group.

I got an eARC of Earthbound, the first installment in a new series by Aprilynne Pike about a year or so ago and I just never got round to it until now. I hadn't read anything by Aprilynne Pike before this and has heard mixed things about her Wings series so didn't really know what to expect. All I knew was that I thought Earthbound sounded interesting. My response after reading? Oh. My. God! Why didn't I pick this up sooner? Why didn't I pick up anything by Aprilynne Pike sooner? I fell head over heels in love with this book.
Tavia's life has been uprooted. The lone survivor of a horrific plane crash she has lost everything. Her family, herself and even her brain function. Living with the mysterious aunt and uncle she has never met before Tavia doesn't know who to trust. When she starts seeing visions of a strange boy that she has unexplained intense feelings for Tavis must face some truths. Why is it she can do things nobody else can? Are those people really her family? Was the crash really an accident? Running away from home Tavia goes on a journey of discovery. To discover the secrets that everyone is keeping from her.
Earthbound is one of those gems of a book that you discover every once in a while and it blows you away. I have instantly become a fan of Aprilynne Pike. The one negative thing I could say isn't really a negative thing. It has a love triangle. I have to admit I have a love-hate relationship with love triangles. I either love them or hate them. In this particular case I loved it and that is probably because it takes a back-burner to the more important storyline. There's a love triangle between this mysterious boy in her dreams and her best friend and confident Benson. I liked both of the guys and actually started to be suspicious of them both. The best thing is that the love triangle is also a suspicion triangle as either guy could actually be after Tavia for her powers. The most important part of the book and the main plot is finding out what Tavia is and discovernig the answers to all the questions. I love that the love triangle is just a sub-plot rather than the main plot.
I was really pleasantly surprised with Earthbound and I am dying to get my hands on the sequel Earthquake, that is due out in a couple of months. I will most definitely be checking out Aprilynne Pike's other works and I am most definitely a fan now. Earthbound surpassed all of my expectations and I am really looking forward to finding out what happens next.

I read a lot of books that say they have a love triangle you will never coming but this is the only love triangle that has tiredly surprised me.
I mean all those past life's loving one guy then you fall in love with other guy and then he is the enemy I feel so so sorry for her but tire love gets its way in the end. Logan remember

So, this book turned out better than I thought, considering the fact that the cover I have looks like an ad for mouthwash. Seriously, who decided that? Ugh. Anyways, I was at the bookstore earlier this week, and having made a poor attempt at reading that mush they call Rebels: City of Indra, I just gave up. So, I needed a new book, and I just so happened to be searching for a gift to give my friend for her birthday. We were about to leave when I discovered this gem hiding in the back of the shelves. The cover was so odd looking that I picked it up and looked at the description, and who should be the author but Aprilynne Pike! I fondly remember her series Wings, and remembering how much I loved them, I decided to give this one a shot. And trust me, I'm glad I did. I need more series so I constantly have an excuse to not read Bloodlines. (I have no interest in reading from Sydney's POV. She's as flat as the diet pepsi I left in my room for two months.)
Alright, so more on actual books and less on my issues with remembering to clean my room.
Overall, I'd rate it about a 2.75. It started out really good. I mean, a plane crash? Who doesn't love that? Probably people who have been in plane crashes, but that doesn't matter. After the first couple of chapters though, I kind of got bored. I mean, for serious, how many times have we seen the whole, 'oh here is my best guy friend and I think I might love him but OH MY GOSH look at this new mysterious guy I like him too, oh my life is so hard I don't want to make a choice.' About a trillion. And then Tavia went on to say some BS like, 'it was like friendship at first sight.' Are you for serious. I think I'm going to hurl, that is so cliche. Then her and Benson started like, making out or something and I was like seriously, we don't have time for this! Plus, I wanted her to be with Quinn. But, we all know how that happens, so obviously my dreams crashed and died. At least we have high hopes for Logan! You know, I'm really getting sick of all of this 'eternal lovers' shit. Mmmm mm, hon. It doesn't work that way. And am I the only one that got massive deja vu? Because this book was near exactly like Wings, what with the same kind of love triangle and MC. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Aprilynne's work, but her characters tend to be kind of flat, unrealistic, and un-relatable. I need a character that's not tall and skinny and brown hair with perfect skin and striking eyes for a change. I don't even have enough fingers and toes to name off all of the characters in YA fiction that are all exactly the same. I'm interested to see how this love triangle is going to play out, though. From patterns I've noticed in other books, and the one I'm writing myself- though it doesn't have a love triangle- writers don't usually tend to go with the male that the MC has 'known all their life' or 'been best friends for as long as they can remember' or, really, starts making out with within the first hundred pages or so. I mean, seriosuly! The only book that doesn't follow that pattern is the Grisha trilogy and that series was a disaster within itself. And the ending, oh the ending. With Benson's betrayal, and Tavia crying for about the millionth time, we see our protag set out on a journey to find Logan after blatantly stating she had no interest in him and that Benson and her love would be eternal about thirty pages earlier. She changed her mind so fast that I barely had time to process what was going on! One moment, she was dead set on OMG BENSON AND TAVIA 5EVER ASDFGHJKL; and then that just fell flat on its face. Legit, Tavia, how many times can you change your mind and start crying about your life problems in one chapter? Apparently, many. Very many. I know, I do complain a lot, but I did like this book, and I'm happy to say that I will be continuing with the series! I need more to read, anyways, and plus no matter how much I piss and moan, I'm excited. I know, doesn't seem like it, right? What can I say, I'm a picky reader.
