Damn. Tigers are spiteful, grudgeful creatures. So are we.

This is an amazing book if you are interested in tigers, the thrill of the hunt and every story that surrounds it. The fault is in such detail it can be difficult to keep track of all the details. A great book, just not for everyone.
While it is a true story, it is written like a work of fiction and I truly enjoyed it. The author did an extraordinary job weaving the story in among the history and politics of Russia and China and the pure survival of the people and animals in a land where survival is unheard of. It was a beautiful tragic story that draws you in and refuses to let go. These Siberian tigers are an amazing creature, their endurance and brilliance are not to be taken for granted. So glad I read this!

A bit heavy on the history part. I thought it would be more story but I seemed to lose interest anytime there would be long historical explanations. The parts of the book that actually spoke to the story of capturing the tiger was extremely captivating. Overall very well written. Incredible ending as well.

This book delves into an odd little corner of the world, where jungle and taiga meet. Apparently the flora and fauna in the Amur region of Russia near Vladivostok is incredible. This story goes into detail about the events of a man eating tiger, the efforts to hunt it down, and the relationship between humans and these majestic cats. The author ascribes some motives to the titular title, and normally this would annoy me. The author himself admits that he is wary to anthropomorphize the animal, but that it is reasonable to assume that an apex predator such as a tiger is intelligent enough to formulate plans of attack. The way he writes, and the sources he uses, makes this seem very true. I really enjoyed this book.
