Gruesome, chilling and down right evil! But an enthralling read, I could not put this one down. Every story was detailed and horrifying but with empathy to the victims it was talking about. A must read for any fan of true crime.
Graphic: Drug use, Physical abuse, Rape, Sexual assault, Suicide, Murder, Schizophrenia/Psychosis
This book was very facinating and gave a nice overview of several serial killers. I enjoyed how Chris gave a broad history and almost backstory of a person before he went into the details of what lead up to the crime. He essentially explains why a that person is almost why the way they are which was very interesting. I liked how there was picture in the middle of the book to see their faces and get a real idea of the person. I liked the use of quotes and use of the law cases fully explaining the details for each person.
Something I really didn't like was that these people were referred to as monsters and inhuman. When of course it is absolutely awful things they have done but I don't think it is right to refer to then as something other than human. The main point that needs to be made is that humans do commit horrific acts and that's why it is so scary as they're not so fully different to the average person walking on the street.
I didn't like how this book is called talking with serial killers when there was little interview talk and it read more biographical than anything else. I wanted proper interview style back and forth to get a real idea of the person and why they did the crimes.
Of course it was fascinating and I enjoyed learning about these people and their horrendous acts I just wanted more from it.

most of the men in this book don’t love killing they just hate women
All of these were stories i’d never heard of before , was really interesting until the last few chapters where it got repetitive , but really wicked people mentioned.
Sadly this didn't deliver what it promised. Most of it was just describing the crimes, the people's backgrounds etc; stuff that you can easily find online or in any other similar book. And the elements of 'in their own words' were so sparse. You could have condensed them down into about 30 pages instead of the 300+ actual length
Oh dear, this was a struggle. It feels as the the author strives to be a fiction writer with little success, the book is written with additional theatrics and additions which make it a difficult read.
The structure is also confusing at best, as there is very little distinction between fact, reliable confessions, and pure speculation. Similarly, the book itself is predominantly talking about the killers, rather than (as the title would suggest) talking with them. I feel as though this is unfortunate as the author clearly has an abundance of information through the interviews overall.
Perhaps my expectations were misdirected, and though difficult it was still a book I could get through.
