This is one of my all-time favourite series, I just love Royce Locke & Sawyer Key, so much! Their last names always make me laugh!

They have both suffered losses; Royce his best friend, work partner, and first love. Sawyer lost his husband 2 years ago and has just left his old job at the Sheriff's department. Royce is grumpy and doesn't warm up to Sawyer. They are new work partners and are thrown in at the deep end.

I loved the two cases and watching them investigate them. They work well together, even if Royce won't admit it. Royce has hidden his sexuality deep and Sawyer is testing his resolve. I loved the push and pull and watching Royce finally give in. They are hot together and I can't get enough of their sexy times; talk about fireworks!

This book is in Sawyers POV, the next is in Royce's, and the last in dual POV. I think that works because you get to know them so much better. They are both hurting and not really living, especially Sawyer. They bring each other out of the darkness!

Perfect Pairing

This was a wonderful, much needed murder mystery. I felt a little overloaded with two murder mysteries in one book but didn’t mind it. Locke and Key were a nice couple. I like how their upbringings were completely different. I hope their families make more appearances in the following books.

I probably should have read this series before Sinister in Savannah but here we are. It's so wild seeing Royce and Sawyer as anything but a happy couple that is super coupled. Impressed that the plot wasn't just one case. Loving the world building going into office and familial politics. Seriously, though, Aimee Nicole Walker is an amazing author so I'm not even the tiniest bit surprised at how great this book was.

This story is told from Sawyer Key's POV, so I'm interested to see what Locke's POV would have been. I love a good enemies-to-lovers story with a slow burn and this fits the bill perfectly. Add in the tragedies that mar both Locke and Key's pasts and things get interesting. Walker does a great job by making the characters the focus, not the crime they're trying to solve. This is yet another series I can happily add to my TBR!

Fabulous start to a new series by Aimee Nicole Walker. I didn't think anyone could replace JJ and Miller in my heart as my favorite couple of this author, but I was wrong. Royce and Sawyer have topped my list. This book was the perfect blend of romance and suspense. I was never bored and I enjoyed every page. The sexual tension was palpable from the beginning, but Ms Walker made us wait for it. By the time these two finally made a move I was screaming for it.

I'm such a sucker for a heartbroken MC in need of love and Royce hit all those buttons. Sawyer is a sucker for the wounded and makes it his mission to help heal his partner on the police force, he just doesn't realize that mission includes falling for the man. Also the fact that Sawyer has so much love for the maine coon he rescued is just adorbs.

More than one police case is worked and solved during this book which I thought was kind of different. No long drawn out cases where you can get bored thinking " Just get him already!". It also made it so the romance never took a backseat to the plot. This is book 1 of 3 in this series and is told entirely in Sawyers POV. Next book we get to venture into Royce's head and I cannot wait. This author has also stated book 3 will be dual POV ( my preferred POV) in case you're wondering. Highly recommend.

this book hits every fear i have when reading a cheesy mm romance written by a woman*

*(there are some fantastic woman mm authors out there! KC Charles, Cat Sebastian, AJ Sherwood, to name a few)

**(particularly cis straight woman, although i can’t speak to those identities for this author!)

1. rampant misogyny (whyyyyyyyyyyy): the portrayal of women was so bad, i nearly vomited in the first 10%

2. 1-D personalities for the MCs. that personality? I AM MAN.

3. hideous dialogue that must be the author’s best guess to how gay men talk

4. a loving embrace of stereotypes

5. sex that didn’t focus on the relationship bw two characters bc it just relied on the inherent smut factor of two men having sex

Outside if these tragedies, the plot was lifeless and predictable, the dialogue clunky, and the pacing just strange.

Sawyer and Royce had good chemistry and I liked Sawyer, but that's about it.

Royce was so hot and cold that he gave me whiplash, and his change of heart and commitment at the end wasn't very believable to me because it wasn't developed enough.

The case wasn't interesting or particularly clever. It felt like an accessory to the romance so the characters could interact instead of an aspect of the book that can stand on its own.

YES, FINALLY!

I've been reading a lot of books trying to mix things I love: detective books and queer people being happy and in love and finally, and I had so many misses, but I finally found one that is good, no hang-ups!

Okay, maybe some hang-ups.

The story is predictable, the characters have some common stereotypes and the cases basically solve themselves and end up a little too neat for my taste.

But, there's chemistry, the writing is fun and fast-paced, the details are strong and make the story more interesting and there is a connection to another series I read that made this even more enjoyable.

Really solid book as far as romance goes, and I plan on finishing the series.
