I couldn’t put it down!

I knew Aimee had a thirst for cops and drama, having swallowed the Curl Up and Dye series while. Both this - this book right here is beyond intense. I can’t wait to dive into Devils!

Royce and Sawyer have great chemistry; I’m really into them as a couple. The problem was that there were way too many things to detract from my enjoyment of their progressing relationship in this.

First and foremost, the whole Levi thing. I can’t believe Sawyer went the entire book trying to convince himself that he should date Levi when he was clearly smitten with Royce, couldn’t stop thinking about him, and they’d had sex. It was ridiculous and stupid, and it made me hate the book just a little bit every time Levi was mentioned. Then there was Royce’s flirting, especially all that with Holly, and his obsessiveness over his dead partner and his family. Not a fan.

The fact that the entire book happens in the span of a few days is also a bit wonky. I feel like these characters deserved a better start of their relationship.

DNF after 200 pages.

I wanted to love this and it was not bad per se... but it was soooooooo sloooooow. In two hundred pages we got the hapennings of 1.5 days.... you realize that basically means describing every single little thing?
And in the 1.5 days the MCs solved 1.5 homicides and had zero chemistry whatsoever. The single third person POV provided limited insight into what was happening with the MCs so we got one gay man lusting over his supposedly straight new partner who admittedly hates his guts from the very first moment... fun times.
The funny remarks between them were forced for me and simply couldn't find the sizzling, enemies-to-lovers vibes.

There were so many potential things to love! I actually liked that the investigations were described in detail but it lacked the emotional storyline going forward in the meantime.
I liked the MCs grieving backgrounds that I think will provide a lot of angsty and emotional moments in the rest of the trilogy but I just can't read it.

It's. Too. Slow.

Ground Zero, is the first book in Aimee Nicole Walkers Zero Hour series, and it's a smashing read. With well-developed, likable, interesting characters, multiple suspenseful story lines, and the start of a romance between the two lead characters detectives Locke and Key. And I really enjoyed the pace at which the story and romance developed, and there is certainly a lot of potential going forward. It also reminded me of Abigail Roux's Cut and Run series. Which is a big favourite of mine and this has definitely got the potential to be as good. And as a new author to me, I'll certainly be looking out for other series/books by Aimee Nicole Walker. I would also happily recommend this story to others.

Enjoyable listen. I don't love Tristan James' voice for Locke, but it's not terrible. The book was good and moved at a good pace. The romance was slow burn. It felt a little like listening to a cop drama TV show, which isn't a bad thing. I'll definitely continue the series.

An MM insta-lusty romance, new partner, detective murder mystery.

The multiple mysteries were solved unrealistically fast. The insta-lust felt off for a multiple of reasons, but mostly because Sawyer was still grieving the death of his husband of eight years.
Sawyer had only known Locke for three fucking days, and much of the time was spent wondering what the man tasted like.
I enjoyed reading it, but not sure I'll continue the series.

Bursting with sass and action, this was the next logical step after I finished Walker's Curl Up and Dye series - and quickly discovered this had more crime focus plot. The characters were excellent and had pithy banter, and the sexual tension was strong - but I felt that the tension gave way suddenly and whilst I love the couple they could have drawn the tension a little longer.
