This book is absolutely amazing.Lets start by saying ,this book was intense, and insanely brutal!Elizabeth Haynes sucks the reader into the book but making us worry for Catherine's safety.
Following the life of Catherine in two different story lines, four years apart - The audience experiences every obsessive thought, every anxious breath, every frustrating misfortune.
As the book progress further, the reader start to realize what causes the trauma and why the character is the way she is.
Basically it is about an abusive relationship. it slowly unfolds how destructive the relationship really is. it started off really well then progressively, how the “bad guy” treats her badly and how he treats her nicely afterwards and all sorts of conflicting emotions running through the characters’ minds. it is quite messed up along the way but that is what makes it interesting and keeps me captivated.
I was really fearing for her life. It started to make me upset that no one would believe her. That it was just her anxiety talking. But she knew the signs, she could see them, she tried her best to be as logical as possible, to not over react but the signs we’re becoming all to clear of Lee’s presence.

Less than one day & done. Breathless page-turner. Puts you on the edge of your seat over & over again.
Into The Darkest Corner is a re-read I’ve been meaning to get around to for ages. It must be 10 years since I last read it and I’d placed it on a bit of a pedestal as far as nail-bitingly tense psychological thrillers go. Did it live up to expectations the second time around? Undoubtedly.
Cathy’s story is told over dual timelines; we witness her life before Lee and after Lee. The story is dark, it’s graphic, and it’s unputdownable. The dual timelines work particularly well with this story as we see plot points mirrored throughout the chapters.
Lee seems too good to be true. He’s gorgeous, he’s charming, and he seems to feel the same way about Cathy. Slowly, cracks appear in Lee’s facade. Cathy feels trapped as his true colours begin to show. The full impact of which changes her life beyond all recognition.
Themes of domestic abuse and mental health issues are integral to this book. It’s not for the feint hearted. But if you like your fiction on the darker and grittier side, this one is well worth picking up.

Into the Darkest Corner was a gripping, creepy and engrossing read. This book was recommended to me by a good friend of mine. Since then i had this book in my to-be-read shelf. I don't have a clear explanation for putting off this book to a later read. Eventually i had to pick it up after seeing my friends gushing about it. It has the most chilling plot line that i have read in a very long time. I'm not a squeamish person, but surprisingly this book creeped me out. Haynes writing was intense and unputdownable.
The book flips back and forth between past and the present happenings. The protagonist Catherine Bailey(in the past) has been enjoying the single life as a coquette for long enough to know a good catch when she sees one. She meets charismatic Lee and starts dating. Her friends, agrees that he is gorgeous. Their relationship starts out to be amazing but later Catherine finds out Lee has a darker side. Her friends start suspecting her for their rocky relationship, this is because Lee is a charmer and begins to tell her friends that aren't true about Catherine. She is driven into the darkest corner of her world, and trusting no one. She makes a scrupulous plan to escape her predicament.
Four years later (present),Catharine now Cathy(changes her name) is suffering from OCD and PTSD. She isolates herself and starts checking things over and over. Every time she enters the house she ensures her apartment main door lock is safely secured, and checks the curtains, bathroom doors, kitchen cabinets, room, her personal belongings. She has a count for checking. If she feels something is wrong she would start it again. Now, Cathy doesn't trust anyone and always had a thought that Lee was watching her even though he isn't. She meets Stuart, a psychologist who lives in the apartment above her and he convinces her to seek treatment for her OCD. Eventually they start liking each other but Cathy is wary in stepping into another relationship. After a while she finds out something strange happening around her and realizes that she is in danger.
While reading this book I felt like I was developing OCD and I did check my door. I kid you not, even the slightest noise scared me and my heart pounded. I wanted to slow down to take things happening in the book and assure myself that its a fictional one but I couldn't resist any longer and I whipped through book quickly. Yes, it was that gripping and intense. I was cringing in shock when I read the last few lines. I would say, it was a riveting novel.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to get sucked in a good thriller and get creeped out. If by any chance you are going to read it before you hit the sack be ready to face your nightmares.

Um livro não tão diferente de muitas histórias sobre relacionamentos abusivos, ex namorados psicóticos e namorados fugindo. Porém a escrita é maravilhosa.
Well, I'm giving this 5 stars because I read it all tonight and couldn't put it down (and now it's way too late and I have to wake up in approximately 5 hours). But I did have to place it on the other side of my room while I sleep because it was soooo creepy. Thrilling and fast-paced, I definitely recommend this but prepare yourself for some pretty graphic scenes.
I spent almost every night reading this hiding under my covers and up far too late. Took me the first 30-or-so pages to get use to the leaps in time but once I was passed that I was hooked. This is super creepy and I found my pulse racing. Reading other reviews, some people found certain bits a bit too gruesome and graphic - I loved it! It really brought home the abuse this woman suffered. Great read and highly recommended.
Cathy has no one to turn to since all her friends believe her boyfriend Lee is just great...he puts on a charming show in public, but in private beats her and is very possessive. After being beaten almost to death, the abuse is brought to light and Lee is jailed...for three years. Since then, she has struggled to regain a "normal" life in spite of her OCD. But now Lee is about to be released, and Cathy knows he's going to come looking for her.
A stunning novel, I stayed up all night reading. Which is something I very rarely do, I loved every minute of this book.
