Alright, it has been a while since I read A Clash of Kings, and several events in my life (alongside laziness, I must admit) kept me from writing this review for so long. Oh well, better late than never.

The first thing that stuck out to me about this book is that how much of a breeze it was to read. The 120 pages or so pages of Huck Finn that I was reading concurrently felt so, so, SO much longer than these roughly 900 pages of A Clash of Kings. I finished this 900-page book in around 20 days. That says enough.

The clear highlight of this book were Tyrion's chapters. Simply put, they revolve around a good man trying to be a just leader in an environment as cutthroat and rotten as King's Landing. For me they were undoubtedly the best part of the book. Daenerys' and Jon's chapters were good as well. The new characters (Davos, Melisandre etc) were very interesting, and some old characters that appeared in the previous book were expanded upon into fully-fleshed characters here (Theon, Stannis). Actually, now that I think about it, A Clash of Kings has more of everything that A Game of Thrones had. More political scheming, more twists, more brutality, an even larger scale, and so on and so forth. The book also expands upon the worldbuilding, particularly upon magic.

Overall? An excellent book, and an excellent sequel to the first book. While I know that this isn't the best of my reviews, it would take some time to increase their quality again, and I won't endlessly put off  writing this review for perfection's sake (as I might have in the past). Anyways, I have heard enormous praise for A Storm of Swords, and I cannot wait to begin it as soon as I can.

oh what a slog I’m glad to be finished this - too much of nothing really happening, a lot of character POVs I dislike, a lot of me wishing for most chapters to be over quick, I really didn’t expect to like this one anyway cos I hate this “season” of the show so we’ll see where it goes from here

Well . . . I thought GoT was heartbreaking. I was wrong. So much betrayal and twists and turns, that you can't really figure out who to root for and no one is safe. Loved it!

this book felt long.
i don’t care about the plot as much as the characters; and this one has a lot of politics going on. it is “Clash of Kings” though so that’s on me.

4.25 stars instead of 4.0 just for cersei. this book made me understand how someone could possibly like the lannisters more than the starks.

overall not as riveting or memorable as the first book. but the worldbuilding is still spectacular, and all of the chapters’ POVs were distinct, and appreciated.
davos’s chapter on the blackwater was an unexpected favorite.
i did also really really like tyrion’s chapters. i think this book is really owned by him, and cersei.—for all that i also liked seeing jon more often.
i’m excited to take a pause, and then return to keep following the story.
