This is a gorgeous story of a man who lives the social changes of 20th century Russia suspended in time because he has been condemned in 1922 to house arrest in a Moscow hotel.
This book makes you imagine a more civilized and purposeful way of living in which the goal is not to maximize productivity or income but to enjoy life.
Of course this ideal way of living is possible for our Gentleman given his upbringing and it's precisely that inequality that led to many revolutions around the world. Without losing his hope, love and always looking for beauty in every aspect of life, he manages to change everyone around him as well.
