This was a solid mystery but the ending was unsatisfactory. I guess that's why there's a sequel ? XD

SO… too slow at first, and when the action is set up correctly, the story is great ! I loved Hayes :(. And I love so much Stevie, I don’t know why I like her…maybe because she pretend to be Sherlock Holmes ? Or maybe because she LOVE criminology? I don’t know, but she’s incredible. Perfect characters with a cool story about a murder back in the present ! I can’t wait to read the second book :,)

Excited to finish on with the series. I checked out the whole series at the library and am so excited to start with book 2!

Fans who love true crime and murder mysteries this is definitely for you!

Started out quite slow with a lot of background but it definitely got better!

This was way better than I expected! I didn't have much expectations going into it, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was actually quite fun and engaging. I liked the characters and the school setting. I also liked the how diversity and representation were woven into the story, not like shoved into your face. Honestly, couldn't care less for the mysteries. They don't intrigue me at all. The parts set during 1936 bored me. If I continue the series, it will be solely because of the characters. An easy, light hearted read if you're looking for one.

I just couldn't relate to the story, the characters, and the place. There is an intriguing start to the book with a bright young girl in the 1920s joining Ellingham school and then meeting an accident in the school. We are then made aware there was a bigger mystery involving kidnapping and further deaths. Then we switch to the current times and another bright girl joining the school determined to solve that near-century old mystery. The story then introduces other characters, yet another murder happens, tension arises between students.. none of which is really well etched out for me. The characters are a bunch of shallow caricatures to me. The mysteries themselves are tepid and cold.

In summary, I was not invested enough in the fate of the lead character or whether the mystery gets solved. I am not at all interested in continuing with the series, though I must say that it was a snappy read. Maybe when I have nothing else to read..
