A few things about this book. First I have a love hate relationship with this book. Next this book made me cry. I wish there had been an alternate ending. Speaking of the end because this is the last book in the series there are WAY too many loose ends. I don't want to give away spoilers but I was really disappointed in this book. I feel like there should be one more because I hate what ifs and this just leaves off with so many it makes me want to hate this book. It really sucks. Other then the end the book was ok. Not my favorite by a long shot obviously, probably my least favorite. I feel like the author just gave up on the series and decided to end it with a big ... ending. I'm going to come back and polish this review but right now it's starting to tick me off.
Great continuation of the series. This book focuses more on the action and core story of the series than the last one. But I’m not satisfied with this as an ending of the series. I know there are no real plans for a 6th book but I would love one.
4:15am...not the latest I've ever stayed up, but definitely later than I was planning to.
Perfect ending.
Perfect ending.
HOLY COW.
After the initial shock of that god forsaken ending:
Okay so, this book could've gone many different ways. And for some reason, Brigid Kemmerer decided to go with the most superficial, non-convincing and self-degrading ending she could find. Am I being too harsh? I'm just trying to show my disappointment towards this series. Because it had some kick-ass potential, and it wasn't developed AT ALL. WHICH SUCKS.
This book didn't add anything to the series, there wasn't some epic battle (a try for an epic battle yes...but not going to count that because of its failure) to wrap the conflict up, NOTHING WAS RESOLVED, like ????
Yeah yeah, I'm not going to go on and on about how much I didn't like this book. Characters I used to love were totally different in this book for no actual reason (SIGH) and just HNNNGGG. NO. NO. NO. NO.
Spoiler
I thought Sacrifice meant Michael was going to sacrifice himself to save his lil bros, but then it was Hunter and WOW, I didn't even like him that much and I have to admit I shed a tear or twoAfter the initial shock of that god forsaken ending:

Michael has spent most of his life protecting his family. Things in town have come to a head and their enemies are determined to finish the Merricks once and for all. And there's Hannah and her son to safeguard also.
What a great conclusion to this series. I'm not the usual YA paranormal fan and only occasionally read them, but I like the author and picked up the series. Nick, Hannah, and the rest feel real, mostly due to Ms. Kemmerer's writing, never cheesy but doing their best in difficult circumstances. I recommend this series if you are a fan or want to become a fan of YA paranormal.

OMG. This was a beautiful bittersweet ending to this series. I do wish that Michael/Hannah had been more definitively finalised as well as making sure that the brothers relationships were settled.
But I suppose that's not really what this was about. It was about the four brothers protecting each other and coming together against the Guides.

Spoiler
Hunter was the saddest thing. I'm going to mentally assume he and Kate are somewhere watching over the Merrick brothers and Tyler.
I just can't believe it's over with.
This series...wow. That's describes it as a whole. I've loved reading these books. They're completely amazing, and I am being honest when I say this is my favorite series of the year, and maybe, ever. I've never read a series with so much...everything.
This book...it was a great ending. Not my favorite book of the series, but it was still amazing. Just like the other books, the writing style was amazing, and the characters were great, as well as the story.
From the beginning, this book was action-filled. There was never a dull moment. Like, I couldn't put it down. It's the first book that has really caught my attention recently. I put it off for such a long time because I thought it would disappoint me, or that I wouldn't like how it ended. But neither of those were the cases. This book was absolutely amazing. Everything that happened was, while heart-breaking and tearful, something that just made the story more.
This book was filled with action, family drama, love, and...sadly, death.
I haven't cried this much during a book since....forever. It really broke my heart.
The ending left me satisfied, but still a little...weary. I felt the relationship with the characters were all a bit strained, and I wished that would have been fixed.
But, overall, it was completely great, and nothing was wrong with it.
The characters were great. I've gotten to know Michael in the other four books, and I knew I liked him, but this book gave me much more of him, and I completely fell in love with him. I got to see his struggles from his eyes, and how much he truly loves his brothers, who I also adore. Hannah, Michael's love interest, wasn't my favorite. In fact, I didn't like her that much. I thought she was pretty immature, but overall, she wasn't the worst. I just wish there would have been more of them as a couple, but really, they were hardly together for the whole book.
That would be my only complaint.
I hate to see this series end, but I'm eternally glad I read all of the books, because if I hadn't, I would have missed out on something perfect.
I highly recommend this series to everyone.

OK so, I'm glad that the big threat was taken care of in this book. But there was a lot in this story I found lacking. Nothing to do with Michael. He was very real and relatable through out the whole story. He wasn't perfect and didn't take raising 3 teenagers like it was nothing. He struggled and fought and was angry. The custody battle, fight with police, everything made him much more relatable. He is one of my favorite characters. I'm disappointed in the way Hannah acted. She was just a petulant child and was so immature throughout the story. I was not rooting for them to be together. She had so many issues and Michael deserves better. I'm not sure I really liked the ending. It felt very unfinished. And ny heart broke for Hunter. I really can't even begin to say how sad his death made me. I wish there would have been a "few months later" epilogue. I think that would have helped wrap up the series better. Overall, still a good story and the elemental storyline was done perfectly
It was very good, fantasy realism is a favorite genre of mine and this delivers everything there is to love about it. Quite heavy on the romance if that's something you like. The sad beginning and comradery between the brothers create a great basis for the plot to play out. This focuses less on their powers and more on the way they navigate life (highschool, relationships, etc) when you have powers. There are multiple different enemies of the brothers, and plot twists and side characters create a very interesting, fast-paced plot that keeps the reader guessing.
