Obviously this was a highly anticipated read for me this year- the Outlander series is my favorite series and I love it so much!

Bees was excellent. I’ve seen some not stellar reviews of it and to each their own, obviously, but I liked how this was a bit more of a character study of (mostly) everyone we know and love. I felt like DG did a better job of breaking up the length of other characters’ chapters and scenes than in previous novels…(Some of William’s scenes drag on a bit before but not in Bees) so we got back to Claire and Jamie and their lives together.

There were some things I didn’t love (not sure how many times I read the word “forsooth” but it felt excessive, and there were some editing misses that should have been dealt with, among other things) but overall it was great and I already can’t wait for book 10!

Edited to add; did I read it a second time the month after it came out? Yep, sure did.

And now we all wait for book 10. How long???
adventurous challenging dark emotional funny informative sad tense

It’s so funny the way the author gets obsessed with one word the whole book. It was either this one or the last where she loved calling a bundle of wood the f slur and then loooved fichu in this one (good wordle word for tmr??) anyways this one was decent, no too much war description, taing god (that’s thanks in Gaelic btw)

It had a lot about the family.

Kindle and audiobook both purchased (UNHEARD OF FOR ME)

This book was worth the 7 year wait. Sweeping epic continues and I delight in the small details almost more than large plot points. What an extraordinary writer.

Gabaldon is not the greatest writer of all time (I’ve lost count of the number of times she’s described Jamie, Brianna, and William’s eyes as “slanted”). She is, however, a storyteller who draws the reader in until she is fully immersed in the book’s setting. Each time I sit down to read an Outlander book, I am THERE in the Big House on Fraser’s Ridge, sitting with the Murrays at Lallybroch, strolling the streets of Savannah. This one ended on a nice cliff-hanger. I can’t wait for the next one. And…am I the only person who despises Amaranthus?
slow-paced

What an absolute slog. It took everything I had to get through this one. Hundreds upon hundreds of pages of boring subplot and, while time passed, the story barely moved forward.
