A well done debut novel. I read Compound Fracture by this author earlier in the year and I am very impressed with how much his writing has improved. If you liked this one def check out Compound Fracture.

Amazing! I think it’s hard for me to give YA books higher ratings now by virtue of me finding teenagers so annoying. But I loved all of the ALC kids so much.

Theo

is perhaps one of my most hated characters of all time now. 

The body horror was so gross and perfectly horrifying. 

The only things that were throwing me off were all the bible quotes (the quotes from in-world texts were cool though) and the…I guess directness? Of labelling all the ALC kids. I think this was due more to the book being for a younger audience than bad writing, but I guess I prefer a more “show don’t tell” approach to these things.

This was a weekend read for me, actually really enjoyed it. The Judgement Day and biblical imagery really added to the post-apocalyptic story that was being driven. Was not prefect and certainly won't be for everyone, the body horror was pretty intense so that is a warning.

Read for Book Club 

On now 2/ 3 time reading it I felt i understood more than I did went I first read it. 
Some of the characters are annoying cause being 16/18 is peak trying to figure yourself as a person ages. I don’t think I’m the target audience for this but I’m glad a cute gay book exists. It did feel like HR video trying to fit every LGBTQIA+ person and religion in to one video. 
I do feel sorry for Theo cause he is 16 and just wants his dad to love him. It doesn’t excuse his actions though. 
I want to know which heretic is doing all the angels tattoos
