This was a cute yet predictable little love story.
Uptight, workaholic, and professional organizer Paige finally decides to take a much needed vacation. Problem is, the bed and breakfast she rented out is owned by a grumpy, but hot, man named Lucas. The place is a cluttered mess and it rains the entire time on an island that has no cars. Paige was not happy.

I loved the protagonists references to F•R•I•E•N•D•S and references to the teenage mutant ninja turtles that I forgot I even knew. I also laughed at the Lizzie McGuire cartoon version of herself questioning her choices throughout the story. Paige’s best friend/assistant Sammy is a hilarious gay man who always had me laughing. I also loved the playful negotiations throughout the book between all characters and the fresh starts they’d have to keep having.

I do need to file a grievance with one thing. Paige is a vegetarian but ate a sausage pizza by picking the sausage off…. No. This would not happen. Sure, everyone is different and maybe some vegetarians are okay with meat juices pouring all of their pizzas, but I am not one of those vegetarians.

I enjoyed the book but didn’t love it. And maybe I would have given a 3.5 but the epilogue ruined it for me. Just too much rushing and perfectness for a story that was supposed to be about love being more important than perfectness and order.

“Sometimes you just have to eat cake out of the box.”
“Cluttered room is a cluttered mind”
“Where is it written that the woman has to change her life?”

This book was so cute. It had the perfect blend of rom-com and steam mixed with serious topics. Lucas and Paige complimented each other so well and I felt had such a good balance between them. The real star of the show for me was Maddie. That little girl stole my heart, she’s the most precious. The ending was done really well to me and avoided the overly cliche ending. I would definitely read another story about Lucas, Paige, and Maddie.

I didn’t finish this book. I got 20% in, and I couldn’t take anymore. The cheesy lingo, the obnoxious gay assistant, the sex-crazed protagonist who was supposedly “so happy” to be single, and the “drop-dead gorgeous” male lead with the bad attitude, was all too much! I love romcoms and chick-flicks, but when a story is shallow and full of all lust, you won’t get far with me.

From what I read, Happy Single’s Day is like a season of the Bachelor or Bachelorette, the star goes lust crazy and confuses it with love, gets engaged, and within a year they’re heartbroken and back to square one. No thanks.

P.S - When will a book be published that praises single life rather than making it hell on earth?!

I was really hesitant going into this book due to some negative reviews I've seen, but I was looking for something quick and really hoped the reviews were wrong. While I didn't agree with all of the negative reviews, I did agree with some. The biggest one regarding Lucas. He said something about bathroom products and gay guys and it just threw me off. He was definitely a grumpy hero which I usually like and there were times I found him okay, like the moments with his daughter but other than that I just thought he was kind of a douche. I liked Paige enough as a herione. I loved Lucas' daughter and his sister. The premise of this book was cute and I did have some moments where I laughed out loud, but it was not my favorite. Ultimately this book did what I needed it to when I needed it.

When Paige decides to take a much needed vacation she stumbles on a bed and breakfast on an island in North Carolina that is offering a Singles Day special. Paige, on an impulse, books a week there. Lucas has not offered his home as a bed and breakfast since his wife died so when his sister tells him she has booked a room he is not happy. Needless to say when Paige and Lucas meet it is not what either of them planned and Paige decides she isn't staying. A northeaster prevents her from leaving and Paige and Lucas are forced to inhabit the bed and breakfast together. A story of unexpected twists in life and what happens when you take a chance.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an arc for my honest review.

Cute, light, fun. But probably won't be overly memorable. Worth the read though for romance-lovers.

Paige has everything - a successful career, a gorgeous apartment, a great life, but no man to spend it with. When she heard about Singles Appreciation Day, she decides to celebrate by taking a weeklong vacation to a quiet beach town. When she gets there she checks into a bed and breakfast that hasn’t been used in years. The owner, Lucas, is a widow and hasn’t had the heart to have guests since his wife died. Until now, and only because it was his sister’s doing. After spending a week together, will these two people realize what they’ve been missing while living the single life?

First of all, any romance that involves puppies is an automatic win in my opinion. This book was that right amount of sweet and cute with the perfect mix of sassy banter thrown in there. Although Lucas drove me crazy with his grumpiness in the beginning, it didn’t take me long to love the idea of Lucas and Paige as a couple and I was rooting for them. The last few chapters of the book, I was sitting there with a big cheesy smile on my face. This is such a sweet romance.

Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks for the advanced digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Shipped will be released on January 19.

This was absolutely adorable! I really enjoyed the humor and the constant banter between Lucas and Paige. I'm usually not a huge fan of kids in romances, but Maddie was such a ray of sunshine and really added to the story (and don't even get me started on the cuteness that was the puppies). The story and characters kept me engaged from the very beginning, and I love how Paige's quirkiness helped bring Lucas out of his shell, and how they both showed each other that it was okay to trust and love again.

The reason why I docked a star (which I know may seem shallow to some) is because after the tension build up and attraction between the two of them, we got a complete fade-to-black scene. I literally said, "Noooo!" out loud when I turned the page and saw that the book skipped from them kissing right to the next morning. Maybe this doesn't matter to some readers, but when I pick up a book that is labeled adult romance, I want some sexy times, and I want it to be on page. Otherwise, I have zero complaints about this book, and if my one critique doesn't bother you, then I highly suggest giving this a go when it comes out on January 19th!

This super cute, clean romance features Paige, a professional organizer, and Lucas, a dormant bed and breakfast owner and father of an adorable 5 year old daughter. With some opposites attract, hate to love, and forced proximity due to a storm, plus puppies (!) this book was a sweet distraction for me and the first book I finished in 2021.

Easy, fun rom-com. Starts with some grief and telling of tragedy that happened in the past. But turns into a fun, easy, closed door romance novel. Ended in a pleasantly unexpected way.
