Kat and Blake were best friends as children—until a family secret tore them apart. Years later, the half sisters jointly inherit their father's beach house. Blake wants nothing to remind her of the father who abandoned her—but she needs the money from the sale of the house to pay for her grandfather's long-term care. Kat, meanwhile, wants to keep the house that was an important part of her childhood. As they work to fix up the house, they're forced to confront the long-simmering bitterness between them. Can they become the family they both need?

This is a heartfelt women's fiction that also includes romance subplots for both Blake and Kat. It's a lovely, satisfying novel.

Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.

I think based on the fun cover, I was expecting The Beach Trap to be a fun rom-com with some added sisterly bonding. While there are a lot of tender moments - this book dealt a lot with grief and strained family relationships. The story follows two women from wildly different backgrounds - once summer camp BFFs, their relationship was abruptly halted when they discover they are half-siblings who share the same father. Flash forward 15 years and the girls are living two completely different lives until both learn they have inherited a rundown beach house from their recently passed father. This book reads like part Parent Trap and part HGTV series - I liked seeing the ups and downs of Kat & Blake’s tenuous relationship and their respective love interests but there was a huge amount of miscommunication between their characters and at times in the first 3/4 of the book, Kat’s character was insufferable and bratty. Overall, this was a refreshing read that sets itself apart from a typical rom-com and was a great beach read this past week!

INSPIRING!

THE BEACH TRAP is a perfect uplifting beach summer read by the talented debut author Ali Brady — An enchanting, witty, and heartwarming story about sibling rivalry; the families we're born into—and the families we choose for ourselves.

Two unlikely twelve-year-old girls, Kat and Blake, from different walks of life, meet Camp Chickawah and develop a friendship.

However, things fall apart quickly when they learn of a long-buried hidden family secret. They are half-sisters, sharing the same father. (this is a shocker when the dad shows up). His big secret. His other family.

One mother is married to the father (Kat), and the other's mom (affair) is dead and unacknowledged. (Blake) With hurt, confusion, lies, emotions, and betrayal, they go their separate ways with no contact.

Fifteen years later, when their father dies, they are once joined together by a will (inheritance) and a summer beach house in Destin, Florida.

Things are tense and they can barely tolerate one another.

Blake has little money, a nanny, now a dog nanny for the summer with hefty bills (out of reach) and expenses with the burden of caring for her loving grandfather. She wants to sell the home for the money.

Kat, a privileged social media influencer, wants to hold on to the family house where there are fond memories. She does not want to share.

SIBLING RIVALRY: The two clash when they join forces to renovate. While they are at odds, they both find romance and finally common ground and what is really important. It is never too late to listen and think about the other person's feelings and what they might be going through - to make amends.

SISTERHOOD: Messy and complex family drama, a bittersweet journey to finding forgiveness, understanding, love, finding yourself, and becoming sisters and best friends—infused with wit, charm, romance, home renovation, and some wise life lessons.

THE BEACH TRAP is ideal for fans of authors Katherine Center, Wendy Wax, Mary Kay Andrews, and Elizabeth Berg. A perfect book club pick for further discussions and made for the big screen.

As a long-time Floridan, love books set in Florida and the cover. Quirky, charming, and humorous. Looking forward to more books by the dynamic duo and BFF authors.

AUDIOBOOK: I purchased the audiobook narrated by my favorite narrator Brittany Pressley (Blake), and the voice for (Kat) by Imani Jade Powers. I prefer Brittany over the other narrator; however, it was an enjoyable and entertaining listening experience. Highly recommend it.

A special thank you to #Berkley and #NetGalley for a digital ARC to read, review and enjoy!

The Beach Trap is a sweet book about two women who have to deal with a lot of pain, betrayal, heartbreak, confusion and disappointment because of what their parents chose. And it takes them a while to work through those difficult, longstanding emotions to find the sweetness in the gift they have: each other. Romance for both is a nice part of the story, and so there’s plenty to love in the ways things get wrapped up by the end.
It’s fun that this book is titled as it is, with elements taken from “The Parent Trap.” Sisters who didn’t know the other existed meet at summer camp. In this case, they first become fast friends, and then they don’t stay in touch. And their late father brings them together years later.

A heartwarming debut featuring two estranged half-sisters who jointly inherit a decrepit family beach house in Florida and spend the summer renovating it while also slowly repairing their relationship.

Blake, the illegitimate daughter, is motivated to get the beach house ready to sell so she can help support her grandfather who is suffering from Alzheimer's. Kat, on the other hand, is a social media influencer trying to impress a Reese Witherspoon-esque media mogul. Together these two opposites slowly get to know one another again over the course of the summer, while also discovering unexpected romance and falling for an irresistible canine companion.

Perfect for fans of HGTV shows and the Parent Trap movie, this was one of my FAVORITE books of the summer and I cannot recommend it enough!! Great on audio narrated by Brittany Pressley and Imani Jade Powers, each sister is superbly voiced and fully brought to life. Much thanks to NetGalley and Berkley for an advance review copy. If this isn't on your summer #tbr yet you are missing out!!

This book was a delight! Kat and Blake find a best friend in each other at summer camp. When Kat has to leave camp early for a family emergency, her dad picks her up - only to discover Blake and Kat have the same dad…?

It’s 15 years later and their dad has died. He leaves them a Beach House to share. So the daughter he raised and the daughter he abandoned have to come to terms with their mixed feelings about family and childhood.

While one of the sisters had A LOT of growth needed to have any sort of healthy relationship, I still loved how at its core it’s about finding family and your own identity. Each sister also has their own budding beach romance. And both love interests are perfect book-boyfriends.
