This is the perfect beach read! A sweet story about two half sisters coming together after a long separation to fix up their grandparents beach house with some romance thrown in. I liked that this book was told from both Blake and Kat's perspectives so the reader could see both sides of the story. I also really liked Blake and Noah. However, I wasn't as big a fan of Kat and Henry. It was obvious Kat wasn't supposed to be likable at the beginning but to me it felt like the growth happened a little too late and a little slowly. I appreciated that Henry helped her grow but I felt like they were still so different I wasn't sold on them. I also felt like it was a stretch to feel like Kat was ready to be a step mom anytime soon. That being said I really did enjoy this book. You basically get two romances in one and a story about a family. I also loved the setting and always enjoy a book about fixing up a house. Worth adding to your summer reads shelf!

Blake and Kat meet at camp as 12-year-olds and quickly bond, promising to be best friends forever. But then Kat’s dad arrives to pick her up and Blake quickly realizes that this is her Dad too, and she was part of her dad’s secret family up until her mother died. Finding out they were sisters does not make Kat happy. Instead, she becomes angry and never talks to Blake again–until their father dies 15 years later and leaves them both a beach house.

This is both a heartwarming and heartbreaking read, as Blake deals with decades of rejection and Kat confronts misplaced anger. Of the two romances, the one with Blake and Noah is more in-depth and interesting. The sisters are well portrayed, with social media influencer Kat a perfect contrast to her down-to-earth, dogsitting half-sister. Another theme is introduced, as Blake is wading into the uncertain and expensive waters of finding care for her grandfather, who is experiencing dementia. The beach setting is perfectly cozy, and home renovation is a popular topic that many readers will enjoy. Full of family, secrets, and the pain of rejection, this is a great summer read.

I received a free copy of this book from Berkley Publishing via Netgalley. My review is voluntary and my opinions are my own.

I really liked this book and thought the author did a really good job of differentiating the characters - I was rooting for Blake and found Kat obnoxious. Their stories progressed in a way that made sense for the timeline and I appreciated the different takes on their love lives. Fun book.

Well this was just as sweet as cherry pie. Take this on vacation with you immediately. (Note: you will have a spoiled whiny privileged character but hang in there. Besides, the other characters are likeable so we gotta have one, right?) Perfect light reading but with heart. Summer reading that is well done!!

“So many women hold themselves up to an unattainable level of beauty, thinking that once they achieve it, they’ll be happy. But the point of life isn’t to look beautiful or even to be happy all the time - that’s impossible. The point of life is to be alive in the world, to feel every emotion, even the messy and painful ones. To challenge yourself, to take risks, to find beauty in the imperfections and be grateful for the opportunity to experience it all.”

Read this book at the beach and it couldn’t be more perfect. This is not spoiling anything but I do find it interesting that Kat’s chapters had some of the best quotes. Like you’d think it would be Blake saying these things and makes me wonder if there was a deeper meaning behind there showing the growth as the story evolved. Either way there was so many amazing quotes in this book. Can’t wait to read more by this author!
