Like a lot of reviewers, I found this read to be a bit "eh." I didn't love it yet I didn't hate it either. I kept wanting the characters to develop a bit more but with the change of narrator every few pages, it was hard to ever feel like you were cracking the surface of each character.

The ending felt a a bit abrupt to me. Each character had changed somewhat by the end, but mostly you were left guessing, which seemed to be a problem throughout the book. For a Reese's Book Club Pick, I was expecting more.

I'm giving this 2.5 stars, rounded up because I appreciated the setting.

When I picked up this book , I thought it would be a fun book about a crazy family dynamic. I thought I was going to get a family, despite hardships, that would come together in the end only stronger than before. That’s is not what I got. This book was really disappointing and the end had no resolution for any of the main characters. Uncomfortable to read at times, it wasn’t funny and I struggled to root for anyone. I painfully got through it.

Quick and easy read. The author writes in a way that allows you to get sucked into each main character's life. I just wished that all of thesese people weren't so miserable with their lives. I did appreciate that even though all the characters were struggling with finding happiness in their lives, there wasn't tons of drama and nosy characters.

Easy summer suntanning beach read

Rounding up to a 3. I love a family drama. Trapped on a cruise, even better. Loved Cord & I felt like he was the only character who went half way deep. Super quick read, with characters not super developed beyond the idea. The ending seemed quick & unresolved. Good premise but lacking emotion.

I wanted to love it, but I just didn't. I hoped for more--more resolution, more healing, more action. So much angst and hurt, which I get is the point of the book. This is a family that has so much between them, who can help each other heal if only they would talk to each other and share their truth. The ending does offer hope and some resolution, but not quite to the level I hoped.

There was a throwaway joke on an episode of Bojack Horseman, that Tim Burton died shooting Mars Attacks and someone else has been making movies under his name ever since. That's how I'm starting to feel about Amanda Eyre Ward. I can't believe this is the same person who wrote Sleep Toward Heaven. Every character is awful, soap opera storylines, kind of relentlessly bad.

Just not my jam. I didn’t like the focus on all their vices and nothing was really solved at the end. Half the characters didn’t seem to grow at all (no spoilers so can’t say who…) but I wanted more development with the characters than just hear about how their childhood messed them up but then what…?

probably more like a 2.5 unfortunately :( thought the characters were going to grow a bit more and the arc just fell flat for me
