The art in this was phenomenal and I just love Fiona Staples more and more but I wasn't as in love with the story. Verne's character was a wonderful touch though!
It was somewhat interesting. The premise was pretty cool. I think it had a lot of potential. But it fell kind if flat. I think a lot more could have been done with it. If you‰ЫЄre a huge fan of Niles or Staples, maybe check it out. Otherwise, nah.
I read this because it was available on Kindle Unlimited. It’s a story about a team of misfit heroes who get vilified as criminals. I liked the art, but I’ve always been a fan of Fiona Staples, and some of the character concepts are weird in a fun way. Unfortunately, this felt like the first volume in an apparently canceled series that never got past the setup.
I wish there was more of this series! I really enjoyed all of the characters and would love to read more of their adventures. The story wrapped a little quickly, but it was so good.
With characters like Secret Skull and Verne (half machine, half brain of Jules Verne), this comic did have the potential to be entertaining in a quirky way. But unfortunately, the characters weren't fleshed out enough for me to care about them and the plot seemed randomly thrown together at times and thus didn't manage to capture my interest. One part of the story is the main characters' attempt to find the stolen skull of Edgar Allan Poe. That by itself sounds great, but sadly, it doesn't exactly play a big part in the overall story. The weakest part of the story, however, is actually the fact that
Fiona Staples' artwork, on the other hand, is unsurprisingly great—and the reason I picked this volume up in the first place.
Spoiler
the thief responsible for the disappearance of Poe's remains is called Mr Culprit. Really? Literally every other name would have been fine ... great job.Fiona Staples' artwork, on the other hand, is unsurprisingly great—and the reason I picked this volume up in the first place.
Really great. The story has some of the flavor of "Saga" (and of course, the same excellent artist, Fiona Staples), but it's its own story and universe. The last section, "Special 2013", is illustrated by Andrew Ritchie, and it fell a little flat for me. Staples seems more like Artwork to me, and Ritchie seems more Comic Book Art to me. Not having grown up reading tons of comics, I prefer something more art-y in my GNs. At any rate, I certainly recommend this, especially for all of you Saga-ites out there!

Really only picked this up because it has Fiona Staples' name on it.
I don't know how to rate it. 3.5? No. 3.65? Yes. 3.65. The characters were great, the art was amazing(obviously), the writing was funny and full of potential.. The rather mundane story and the fact that it was all over in a single volume kind of soured the pot. Gah.
