1.5 ? maybe just 1

do they just let anyone publish books about anything now ??

idk how in someone's head they can go like my goal is to publish a book on essays that are on the dumbest topics ever and dont make sense.?? yeah. what went through his mind.like. what did the author even think about when he sat down to write. did he write abt whatever came to mind and publish it right after ??

honestly if I had wrote this Id still feel like I'm not allowed to call myself a published author.

This book is brilliant. Very brilliant. If that hasn’t convinced you, go and google one of his shirt stories called “things you only know if both your parents are dead”.

I've never read any of Golby's essays before (although Wikipedia tells me he is one of Vice's most-read staff writers), and I was pleasantly surprised. Of course, as is true with almost all collections-of-things, I liked some of the stories better than others - notably the essays on camels, Monopoly, dinner parties, and landlords. I laughed out loud at all of those—Golby has a funny, relatable, conversational way of writing that just makes you burst out a short giggle here and there.

But, some of the other essays were too weird, short, hard to read, or confusingly organized for me to get into. Golby also writes in a way that makes you think that this guy really likes to listen to himself talk and think his life is the most interesting life. I understand that this is how most humor-essay-collections, standup routines, etc. are written as well, but I didn't think Golby's anecdotes were as funny as he thinks they are. Maybe I'm just not the right audience here. Solid 3 stars.

A few really great essays but the majority were uninteresting and boring to me.

I really liked this essay collection. Golby writes like David Sedaris for this generation. While he's not graphic, you have to be able to be okay reading about porn in the abstract. After all, the author is in his early 30s, and he's a non-fiction essayist...

I enjoyed almost all of the essays. Some were heartbreaking, like the essay about his alcoholic father. Some were just odd, like the camel festival. Some were funny; actually most had threads of humor throughout.

I read this for the library reading challenge (repeated word in the title). I must say that I haven't been wowed by that many I've read purely for the challenge, but this is the exception.
