Simone Visits the Museum by Dr. Kelsi Bracmort and illustrated by Takeia Marie is a really sweet, charming little picture book that has a lot going for it. The illustrations are incredibly cute, and the character design was fabulous all the way through. I really liked the emphasis on both responsibility and on exploring your own community. It was great to see a picture book represent the ways you can experience the world around you, and I imagine that kids in DC would be especially charmed to see this representation of their community. I appreciate that Simone's mother never speaks down to her and treats her like the smart little girl she is, but I did feel like some of the language is a bit stilted for regular conversation and narration. As much as I loved getting to see Simone's day, I wish more time had been spent at the titular museum.

Overall, this is a cute little book and is worth the read for anyone who enjoys picture books.

Interesting

There are very few words that you can put as a title. It shows the strength of a family unit, time with family and also cultural knowledge. It was beautifully illustrated. I wish there had been more.

Simone Visits the Museum is about a young girl, Simone, spending the day at the Smithsoniam Museum of African American Culture with her mom.
I loved the illustrations (except for the sometimes overlarge gaps between Simone’s braids). The story however wasn’t anything special, and the dialogue was kind of stilted and unrealistic.

2.5 almost 3. The language is bit formal and the kids a bit too perfect. Also considering the title, NAAMHAC is not really in the book that much. However, the artwork is stunning. Additionally, the story features a loving and successful family.

A day with Simone would have been a better title. The museum is just a small part of it. Simple story and art, everything is still good, but just a bit blank, empty to make it reach a better rating. A fair and well deserve three stars!

As the title suggests, Simone Visits the Museum is a short, beautifully illustrated book on an African American family. Simone visits the Museum with her mother on a particular day, and then later the day ends with the mother and daughter duo joining Simone's father and brother. A book on family bonding and history.
