This is the first book in the Bevelstoke series.
Miranda is in love with Turner for years. He is her friend's older brother, and you know how much I love this trope.
The last years have been difficult for him, even since he married a woman that betrayed him, leaving him without the ability to trust again and now a widower.
Miranda can still see the man she loves and hopes that she can help him find himself again.
I enjoyed this book very much. Miranda is a very sweet and strong character. Turner is hiding behind his painl but you still see how much he cares.
I really liked the romance's pace, the story was captivating and very exciting

A very fun Julia Quinn!
Miranda was very likable and I enjoyed that she was very forthright and good at communication, unlike Turner who was a bit of a knob to be honest. I mean I was rooting for them both but he really was a fan of wallowing!
I also wasn't a fan of the nickname 'puss' to be honest and what annoyed me more was that I got all 'aww shucks' about it when he called his daughter that.
I wish there was an extra epilogue like for the Bridgerton books but unfortunately not!
It’s been a really long time since I’ve read a Julia Quinn novel. I’m talking years. I got out of the habit of reading historical romance a while back, and just never really picked it back up. However, since this year is the year that I’m trying to really put a dent in my shelves, I wanted to start reading some of her backlist. The Secret Diaries of Miss Miranda Cheever has been sitting on my shelves for a very long time. In fact, I actually dug it out of the donate bin in order to read it, and now that I have, it’s staying on the shelves because I really enjoyed this one, and Miranda might just be one of my favorite historical characters.
Miranda Cheever is different. She’s not the “typical” regency beauty, with her dark hair, and brown eyes. She’s never really fit in with her peers, and would rather just spend her time reading or with her best friend Olivia. When Miranda ten years old, she’s insulted at a birthday party by one of the other little girls, and it solidifies what she already knows. She will never be beautiful or pretty. However, when Viscount Turner takes her home that day, he gives her a word of advice that sticks with her for a very long. It’s the day she falls in love for the first time, and the day she starts to write her first journal.
As Miranda gets older, she continues to love Turner, even when he marries someone else. However, after the death of his wife, Turner returns to his family home, and there he cannot avoid Miranda. Soon it becomes clear that Turner and Miranda are walking a tight rope when it comes to their relationship, and they no longer can deny their attraction to each other. But Turner has been burned before, and it’s clear that it will take quite a bit for him to admit his love to Miranda.
I adore Julia Quinn, and think that her historical books are some of the most well written novels out there. I adore his characters, and his female characters are full of tons of spunk and sass. Miranda was a great example of that, and I adored her character. Turner though, was a little bit too angry for my historical tastes, and I was frustrated by how long it took him to finally come around and realize his feelings for Miranda, but when he finally did, it was FANTASTIC!
Honestly, this was just an all around adore historical romance that I enjoyed so much, and I’m so glad I finally got to read it!

4.5 Stars.
And JQ with another excellent book! This was such an emotional roller coaster. There was so much Miranda had to deal with. Oh man, I think I would have slapped Turner.
The diary entries are spread throughout, and at first I thought they were weird, but I started this book on a work night, and when I took a breath, it was 11. Like, whoa! I was totally lost in Miss Cheever's dramatic launch into the ton, and her journey to finding love.
Something I really enjoyed about this book, was that the couple had some foreplay before they got nekkie together. Yes, Turner was a total jerk at the funeral, but Miranda knew better. She stopped that shit in its tracks. And good for her. Not settling for nookie just because. I also really liked Olivia, her friend here stuck through her through everything. And that ending. I really think I had some tears welling in my eyes.
Miranda is witty, their banter is really great. And if you like HR's you will definitely like this one, I am not surprised that there is a HUGE wait for this at my library.

Another fantastic Julia Quinn read! I think this may have worked it way near the top of the ‘my favorite Julia Quinn books’ list I have in my head. I really appreciated how she was able to maintain tension in the relationship as the story developed and we were not stuck with one conflict to maintain us through the entire story. The added conflicts also felt REAL in the way that they came about/played out and not like plot devices to add pages to the story.
An interesting observation I had when reading this book is that so far, the two Quinn novels I’ve read with the most, ahem…demanding… male main characters are also the two stories that have contained a hunting cabin in a thunderstorm. These have also been, coincidentally or not, my favorite of her books.
