The book was ok, I was hoping for a bit more. Not sure if I'll continue the series or not.

Re-read for book club but I didn't really like it much more than the first time I read it. I LOVE Patricia Briggs and her writing is always stellar but this story just doesn't resonate with me the way her others do.

I can’t believe how much I liked this. I was looking for something like Twilight but for adults but not raunchy and I found it in this book. Excited to continue the series!

So, first off, the one thing that bugs me is the black = bad, white = good thing. It's a harmful holdover and there are so many other ways to indicate bad magic without reinforcing that crap.

Second: would love to know if she has any native or American Indian beta readers.

Third: this is a REALLY interesting approach to explaining trauma. Briggs doesn't wallow in Anna's past, which I appreciate. But having a 'wolf' take over when she experiences a PTSD stressor is an interesting metaphor for actual PTSD, where basically your lizard brain takes over for you. Anna does a lot of tiptoeing around her own boundaries and afraid of her own responses, which is super accurate. It's a really interesting intro into the Omega thing, whose superpower is basically to be able to do anything to overcome.

COLOR ME INTRIGUED, BRIGGS.

This was good, it just wasn’t really what I expected/wanted from the story. After the first novella’s plot being very intertwined with the main characters, having this plot be centered more around another character wasn’t super my thing. I wasn’t expecting a majority of this book to take place outside in the snow either, y’know. But this was still well-written. I just wished it was more about Anna and Charles. One thing I did like though was that Charles’s injuries were realistic and not thrown to the wind to make the story easier. With werewolf books especially I feel it is easy to just say super-healing and move on. I like that Briggs didn’t make him too op for the world. It made for an interesting extra conflict in the plot.

Loved this book! Everything about it, the characters, the setting, the storyline, absolutely everything!!! Anna and Charles were absolutely perfect together., Just the right mix, it was like when one of them was strong the other was weak, and when the other was weak the other was strong, it just really, really worked. I like the explanation of the Alpha and Omega werewolves, And I can't wait to learn even more. I don't even know what else to say, but read this book! And I'm definitely, definitely going to finish the series.

So I liked the story. However the way the author talked about the male lead felt a little fetishistic of Indigenous people. Strong "noble savage" vibes.
