3 stars, mostly for the idea behind this, because I love it. Even though we all know Poirot did not retire after them, I enjoyed how he said his last 12 cases would be modeled after the labors of Hercules (hence the title). The bit of Greek mythology crossover was fun, and I like how the stories were loosely connected. But unfortunately the way it usually goes with Poirot short story collections is that they are very hit or miss, and this was no different. Poirot works better when he has time to examine the case from all possible angles, and in short stories he doesn’t have enough time to do that. Still fun and one of the better short story collections in the series, but it can’t compare to the novels.
****3.5****
An old acquaintance of Poirot challenges him that he would never retire and he decides to take up only twelve more cases mirroring the task of his namesake, Hercules. So Twelve Hercule Poirot short stories, each story relate to one of the labors of Hercules.
The Nemean Lion : Poirot is called to find about Missing dogs which brings out a serious crime.
The Lernean Hydra : A doctor wants to clear his name from his wife's death. He approaches Poirot to salvage his reputation.
The Arcadean Deer : A young man approaches Poirot to find a missing maid with whom he has fallen in love.
The Erymanthian Boar : On holiday in Switzerland, Poirot helps catch a famous criminal named Marrascaud
The Augean Stables : Some political story, which went right over my head!
The Stymphalean Birds : A British diplomat caught between a pair of women and domestic
violence.
The Cretan Bull : A young woman approaches Poirot . Her fiancé has called off their
wedding because he suspects he is insane. But the woman does not
believe it.
The Horses of Diomedes : A set of young women who fall prey to drug use. But Poirot is
here to investigate and find out who is the victim and who is the
prey?
The Girdle of Hyppolita :A schoolgirl and a precious painting disappear around the same
time. Even though the girl is found Poirot is interested in her.
The Flock of Geryon : Miss Carnaby from story 1 seeks Poirot's help to rescue her friend
from a Holy cult.
The Apples of Hesperides : An antic goblet is robbed and has gone missing once the robbers
die. Poirot is here to find and restore the cup.
The Capture of Cerebrus : It was one more story that went a bit above my head. A drug
related story.
Happy Reading!!

Really, I think I'm just working my way through these bad boys. I'm a bigger fan of a full length book than a set of shorts.
And having finished it finally - I conclude "Yes". I must confess that my favourites story was "The Flock Of Geryon".
