Twelve stories

Hercules Poorly decides to take on twelve last cases before retiring. But not just any cases! His cases will be based on the twelve labors of Hercules. It is a fun idea to read and to see how the stories match up.

2.5

Hercule Porot is getting a bit bored with the detective work and is contemplating retirement. He makes a deal with himself that he'll only take cases that remind him of the actual labors of Hercules. The result is a collection of twelve unusual cases for Poirot to solve.

En este libro el curioso detective belga emula a su tocayo mitológico y se enfrenta a 12 trabajos difíles solo aptos para su gran ingenio: asesinatos, robos, chantajes...

Hercule Poirot plans to retire, so he takes on 12 final cases mirroring Hercules’ 12 labors–surprise, he doesn’t retire. As a major mythology buff, I was looking forward to seeing how the Queen of Mystery tackled a contemporary (for the time) retelling of the 12 Labors with one of her most famous characters, Hercule Poirot. Unfortunately, I was disappointed; most of the cases felt really forced to fit the prompt, rather than developing naturally into the prompt. Because she wrote 12 short mysteries, none of them felt fully developed. That said, it was still an enjoyable read and I loved the further insight we got to Poirot’s character.
