Hero at the Fall

I have really enjoyed this series. The characters are dynamic, the story is compelling and the setting is unique. In the 3rd book, Amani and her rag tag group of rebels have to try and get prisoners out of a prison where no one escapes. She has to make some tough decisions. Like the other two, there is violence. There is a little more romance in this one but it helps move the story and is not too detailed. Fans of fantasy, mythology, and kick butt girls will love this series. 6th grade and up.

Woooohooo I can't believe I finally manage to finish this series! I read the first book ages ago and the second one two years ago, so I'm not going to lie, I forgot a lot of stuff that happened in the previous books, and I wish I could have read this earlier. Still, I enjoyed this a lot and I thought this was a quite satisfying and emotional conclusion!

Please give me this book. Now.

3.5/5, wonderful finish to this amazing series! This book lacked the shine the other two in the series had, and I found it a bit slow, however it was still a rollercoaster of a finale! I continue to love the world and mythology in this series, one of the best I have ever read. The ending of this book had me crying so hard, so you know it had me hooked. Sad to say goodbye to this series.

I'm not really sure why I wasn't more emotionally invested in Hero at the Fall. Though I had mixed feelings about book 1, I absolutely loved book 2 and was really excited to see how Hamilton wrapped up the series.

Two big things that stood out to me were:

1. A lot of this book is very grim. That's to be expected from the finale in a series about war + revolution I guess but the balance between heavy plot points and light-hearted moments amongst friends was one of the reasons this series had previously worked so well for me.

2.
There were a TON of convenient loopholes that repeatedly let Amani and her close circle get out of situations where the reader had repeatedly been told that at least one specific character wouldn't survive. Rather than this feeling like a neat, unexpected twist it just made me very frustrated. The rules of the world should apply to everyone in the story -- or at least apply consistently -- and they definitely didn't in Hero at the Fall.

I'm not sure, now, how I feel about the whole series. Traitor to the Throne is still one of the best middle books in a trilogy I've ever read and the world this series is set in was so rich that I'm willing to forgive some of the things that bugged me about Rebel of the Sands. There just isn't much that redeems Hero at the Fall for me, though, which is a bummer as I'd been so excited to finally finish this series.

This was going to be a solid three star review until I got to the very last few chapters. They were literally everything I wanted as an end to this beautiful and incredibly written series!

holy shit. i can’t even.

this has to be one of the best trilogies i’ve ever read in my life. all the books were amazing and the characters and everything wow. i can’t ask for more, this has everything i’ve ever wanted in a book.

the characters were amazing. the places. the storyline. everything. i loved it so much.

i was crying so so hard when amani and jin died. like. the hardest ever wow. it was so painful but so worth it. i will held all of them so close to my heart forever. i love everyone in this trilogy.

this was the best way to end. i lowkey think it would’ve been better with 3 or 4 more chapters because i felt the final battle was too quick but anyways i loved it so much i can’t

4⭐️

ah this was such an satisfying ending to the trilogy!

I really enjoyed it and I love the way the last chapter just wrapped up everything so perfectly. The end was a little rushed but overall I really enjoyed this and it was a good last book for the series!
