It’s amazing to me how quickly Tove came into her own and found her footing with the Moomin world (a major jump from the previous book). Clearly written from a child POV, not in any way simplified but the way a child would want to be special/gain attention, keep secrets only shared with the trusted few, or believe their parents can set any wrong right again (even a natural disaster). There’s also enough irony and humour to entertain the adult reader.

Currently obsessed with Tove Jansson and devouring her Moomin books. Love the printings from Sort Of books. They are done so beautifully! These quiet, little adventure stories give me a childlike joy and make me long to have nostalgia for them. Wish the Moomins were more common in the states!

Very sweet and somehow nostalgic for me, despite this being my first exposure to the Moomins world. I think it reminds me very much of the vibe of Winnie the Pooh; cozy and silly and lighthearted. I really liked it and I will be reading more of these, as they make excellent bedside books.

That was a delightful read. Just what I needed.

The story of a comet and Moomintroll's attempts to find out whether said Comet will destroy everything and everyone. To do so he sets off with his friend, Sniff, to get some scientific information from the scientists in the Observatory. To get there they undertake a series of adventures, meet new friends and watch as the Comets impending arrival causes all sorts of problems.

It is all rather sweet and lovely. Tove Jansson's writing is clear, clever and the world-building is rather magnificent. This is, of course, a children's book but with the hidden depths that many a great children's book has.

The illustrations too are delightful. I've got a pile of Tove Jansson books to read and I'm looking forward to it immensely.
