I like true crime, and this was a decent one. An intriguing case. However, some of the witnesses Scottish accents were so thick I couldn’t understand them (even with the audio speed slowed way down). Also, the two authors still seemed on the fence about the suspect’s innocence at the end...which made for an unsatisfactory conclusion. ⭐️⭐️1/2

I was underwhelmed by Body of Proof. The accents were delightful, but I realized very close to the beginning that there was a ton of doubt in this case. I didn't need to listen to the end for the authors to come to that conclusion. And they didn't uncover anything new, either, so this book was just ok.

This audio book was such an interesting story. I chose this one out of my free Audible Audio originals because from the overview, it sounded interesting. I don't normally go for murder mystery type of books, but since it is October, and it sounded like it was more aligned with CSI rather than the regular murder mysteries, I decided I would give it a try. I am glad that I did!

This audio book was done in a way that seemed similar to multiple editions of a podcast were edited together to make a full book/story. This is a modern murder mystery, where a young woman has gone missing without a trace. A coworker is deemed suspicious and come to find out the two have had an affair. The story goes on to look at the case where the coworker was deemed guilty of murder, yet there was no physical evidence against him tying him to the case. Also, there was never a body to be found.

The narrators of the audio book do a wonderful job in keeping an open mind, an objective mind, about the evidence and not taking sides. The murder is still a mystery because the woman's body has yet to be discovered and the crime took place over 10 years ago. I enjoyed listening to this production and I will know for the future to keep an eye out for more productions that are similar.

I'm a huge fan of true crime but this story didn't do it for me. I think part of my dislike comes from it's length. It felt very drawn out especially for a case in which there was never a body found. There is a lot of "did he? didn't he?" which is the basis of the entire piece. There is very little evidence and a lot of speculation. It's heartbreaking that the victim's body was never found as that would at least give the family some closure and possible provide more evidence. Currently, the accused is walking free but without any hard evidence, we'll never know.

This short Audible Original follows the disappearance of a young woman and the man convicted of killing her. After nearly a decade, her body has not been found and appeals are consistently denied- despite the lack of any forensic evidence.

I could tell when listening to this that it had left a lot of holes in its storytelling. Other reviews seem to suggest that it's terribly biased.

I am coming to enjoy stories of true crime more and more. This podcast-style review of one case is especially interesting because there is no forensic evidence and they included the evaluation of the Scottish justice system.

Really interesting listen and fascinating insight into the Scottish justice system, but dissatisfying conclusion.
