Not my favourite Sherlock Holmes novel - while I loved the first half, I pretty much skimmed through the second half.

The only Sherlock Holmes novel I've not read... time to give it a go!

In the same vein as A Study in Scarlet, this novel has two parts--the first being the crime/mystery itself, and the second being backstory. In this case, the backstory was far, far more interesting than that of A Study in Scarlet, but the mystery of ASiS was a little better than this one was. Still, a great and well-written story as is always expected from Doyle.

50% cool Sherlock mystery, 50% tangentially related western??????

Sherlock Holmes is always a favorite. I like when doyle uses mre of Watson as a twist in this mystery of murder and a missing barbell.
