So I work with individuals with autism, so this was very relevant to me. I thought the author did a nice job for the time it was written. I am curious what advocates would say if it was written today? But beyond the autism theme, I found the parallel story also nicely written. I liked how the two stories joined. And I liked both of the main characters. I did find the relationship endings for the two main characters interesting. Wondering what others think....

Jammer, het had zo mooi kunnen zijn, net als de andere boeken die ik van haar heb gelezen. Maar deze vond ik heel onsamenhangend!

"4.19.13 For Felicia - We are all connected." Lisa Genova

This is a beautiful story about a boy with autism and his love for things in Threes, Barney and smooth, white beach rocks. It is a story of the way his life and death connected two women in unexpected ways. Anthony lived through the words Beth wrote on the page and Olivia the editor reading her son to life off the page. Olivia knew the story wasn't finished yet for, not only getting her answers about why Anthony had been born at all, but for Beth and her husband Jimmy and their rocky marriage after infidelity. When the story was finally finished: Olivia received the answers she needed to allow happiness and love back into her life and Beth found forgiveness in her heart to welcome her estranged husband back to their marriage.

"I was here for you, Mom. I was here to teach you about love. Most people love with a guarded heart, only if certain things happen or don't happen, only to a point. If the person we love hurts us, betrays us, abandons us, disappoints us, if the person becomes hard to love, we often stop loving. We protect our delicate hearts. We close off, retreat, withhold, disconnect, and withdraw. We might even hate. Most people love conditionally. Most people are never asked to love with a whole and open heart. They only love partway. They get by. Austism was my gift to you. My autism didn't allow me to look into your eyes, it didn't let me hug or kiss you, it didn't let me say aloud the words you so desperately wanted to hear with your ears. But you loved me anyway."

I was meant to read this book. In so many ways I could understand. Thank you Lisa Genova for writing this story. It's not just another story about Autism but about people, just like you and I. We are quirky and different.

i just re-read this book for my book club.
Loved it even more the 2nd time around.

Right up there with The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime, this novel gave me perspective and moved me to tears. For that, five stars.

I LOVED this book. I don't know if it is because I could SO relate to Olivia's situation with Anthony. This author had such an amazing handle on autism and reminded me so much of myself and daughter before she learned to speak. I don't know if others not experiencing a life with a child with autism would enjoy it as much but this book was amazing. I couldn't wait to read the epilogue.

This was a decent story - the supernatural element went a bit too far for my tastes. The author clearly has a good understanding of autism and did a great job describing what it might be like to be a boy with autism (or autistic boy, if you prefer!). The descriptions of the emotions and experiences of a mom of a child on the autism spectrum particularly resonated with me.

Once again, a wonderful novel by Lisa Genova. Still Alice is my favourite book by far, so I was really looking forward to Love Anthony and wasn't disappointed. The author has a gift of creating memorable, likeable, relatable characters with stories that you just dive into.

Although one of the characters in the book has autism, this book isn't just about autism. It's more about love and loss, moving on and forgiveness. As much as there are tangible losses in the book (loss of a son, loss of a marriage), it also about the less tangible - like the loss of self, the loss of trust. The story was touching and eye-opening and brought me through a range of emotions - exactly what a great book should do!

I felt the 'other-worldly' aspect of the story was a bit different from the author's previous works, but I don't think it took away from this wonderful story.

Definitely a must-read!
