“If I hurt her, I will bring every weapon at my disposal and lay them at your feet for you to do to me what you will. If I hurt her, I will no sooner carve out my own heart than dare draw breath again.”

6 Days later I FINALLY finished We Free the Stars!
Do you want to know whyyy...?!
Because it was nearly 600 pages!
If a book is that long, EVERY SINGLE PAGES needs to be worth it.
Sadly, this book missed that mark.
The length was its demise and I felt myself at points saying “ugh how much longer!”
who knows though, maybe i’m just a hater of long books

It took me a long time to finish this book - partly because it was so long and therefore dragged a bit, partly because I just wasn't in the mood to read something like this in January. But now that I've finished it: wow. It's really, really good. Even better than the first book, and the end had me wishing for more... a spin-off series for Altair and Kifah would be awesome.

Aghhhh. I’m definitely in the minority here based on tonssss of early reviews for this finale, but it was just TOO LONG for me. I loooved WHTF but even upon rereading it a month ago I found it to be pretty slow, and this was almost double the length. I found myself skimming parts of this that just didn’t interest me, and despite the fact that the ONE THING I needed to happen with the ending happening, I found myself frustrated reading the final pages.

The romance between Nasir and Zafira has been one of my favorites because DUH, enemies to lovers and they’re just both stubbornly, stupidly in love. But GEEZ, they stressed me out to no end in this book. The amount of times I was suuuuper excited by an interaction they were having only to have it end with another miscommunication that kept them apart was frickin agony. It was so effing frustrating. Zafira’s annoyance with Nasir when she was sending him all kinds of mixed signals made me annoyed with her for a majority of the book, and it culminated with her refusing him at the end before FINALLY (thank GOD) coming to her senses. But why put both them and ME through that turmoil when we’ve already suffered for the entire book? Ugh.

Overall though I’m satisfied with the ending. I think that all of the characters’ storylines were wrapped up nicely and in unexpected ways that I actually really enjoyed. I liked Kifah’s continued role in this book and I also LOVED Lana! Yaaaaas Lana! I’m not crazy about Altair like most people so sometimes his POV chapters got skimmed, but I did really like his ending. Obviously I’m ecstatic with where Nasir and Zafira ended up but my god was it a roller coaster to get there.

So much better than We Hunt The Flame!

Finally, some more magic. Honestly the first book slowwlllyyyy dragged for me. The only thing that kept me going was the underlying romance between Zafira and Nasir (which really was barely there).

I am normally an avid high fantasy and extreme romance reader so this was definitely a change for me. I did enjoy the break from my norm, and would definitely recommend this duology purely because I loved book 2.

The character development of Nasir was my fav, and the author did a great job of wrapping up the story without it feeling too rushed. There were really some beautiful parts of this book, too.

All in all, this duology probably won't make it as a reread for me, but I am glad that I read it. It was refreshing to read something that was set in 'Arabia' and had an eastern flare to it. Some may say that it was overused in the story and was too much, but I believe that more books need this variety.
Simply put, this is an easy read, which for me pushed me out of my book slump.

Would recommend :)

The battle is finally over and Altair is in captivity. Those who fought him know that he already had a plan in place and that it still needs to be stopped. Nasir is trying to learn to use his magic as a weapon and Zafira hears voices in her head that threaten to take away her sanity. They both know that the darkness is growing ever closer and they must prepare for battle, even if it costs them a newfound love. What sacrifices will need to be made to save their world?

We Free the Stars in the second book in the Sands of Arawiya series. We once again find ourselves in a world full of magic where good must overcome evil and readers won’t discover the answer until the end. Faizal has taken the world she created in We Hunt the Flame and completed the story we didn’t know we wanted to read. We have magic, adventure, and romance all rolled into a good read. We Free the Stars is the conclusion to this duology, so readers will know the fate of everyone after this book.

I am so glad I came back to this duology. I liked the first book, but I loved the second. I felt like all the characters, but Zafira most of all, experienced more growth in this second book. I felt much more attached to the characters and their trials in this book. I also enjoyed the setting more in this book.

Can't wait to see Faizal's next series come to life!
