I found the beginning of this book a little hard to get into, but after the first few chapters it became interesting. I enjoy the character of Temperance Brennan a lot and she is very intelligent.

It wasn't the best, I'm starting to think that Reichs is not even making an effort any more, but I feel I have to finish the series having read this far, mainly because I want to know how the Brennan-Ryan relationship will end up!.

I found this story really confusing and I still don't know who the killer was, and I mean: there are so many characters, so many corpses and so many of everything that I have lost count, so I have NO IDEA who the killer is in the characters list!; for the last 2-3 books I have been thinking of making a list of all the characters, but I normally remember once I start loosing count and I can't be bothered to go back to the beginning!

I accidentally bought two copies of this book at different book fairs, so I thought it must be good, right? Unfortunately not. I wasn't a big fan of any aspects of it - the characters, the writing style, the mystery. I haven't read any other books in this series and don't plan to, but perhaps fans of the series would like it more. Maybe it was just a bad one with dark themes - cop killed, lgbqt bigotry, religious persecution, drunken black outs. I wasn't a fan.

Devil Bones was another good book set in the Temperance Brennan series, but I did not find it to be the best. To be, this was the worst book so far in the series. It brought all of the action, death, blood, and bones that all the Temperance Brennan series brings, but I just found it to be boring and predictable. Normally I do not see the ending coming, which made this book a little bit of a let down. For some reason, it didn't hit all the right notes with me. But, it was still a great read by Kathy Reichs!

The novel was slow and painful to read. There was a lack of Andrew Ryan, and he is definitely a good source of comedy and strife with Tempe. This lack made the book feel slow and boring when they weren't going back and forth with ideas about the murders or their personal lives. I also found Pete to have less of a presence, and that made it even worse. If Ryan isn't there, Pete can at least give some sort of interesting conversation with Tempe!

Overall, the lack of those two characters made the book seem slow. Ryan and Pete are both fun characters that bring up comedic or dramatic conversations with Tempe. Without them, the loss is clearly visible.

I give this novel three out of five stars. Although I love Kathy Reichs and I am addicted to her novels, this one just didn't live up to the hype for me.

"Devil Bones" is neither the best nor the worst mystery novel I've read. It's a fun enough light read, but it also wasn't quite what I expected. "Devil" is my first experience of the Temperance Brennan novels, though I've seen a few episodes of the tv show "Bones." I haven't watched much of the show, but enough to be familiar with the main characters. I found the book to be rather different. Brennan's character has a notably different personality, and is surrounded by a very different cast of characters. I was a bit surprised at how different the two were from each other, but it didn't change my opinion of the book. I'll probably look for more of the book at the library, but they aren't something I'm likely to ever buy.
