This book is bad - I mean really bad. After the first couple of chapters I began to "hate read".
Where to start. . .  Well, the main character is supposed to be a special forces ex operative but he is written as a whiny 14 yo girl whose favourite saying is "you're such an asshole/asshat". Why write him with this back story when you are going to ignore that major part of his formation as a person. I bet the guy who shot Osama Bin Laden yelled "You're such an asshat!" just before he shot him!
There is so little plot that most of the book is a repeat of this phrase over and over and over again! The plot is so linear and one dimension that it does not rate a mention - here it is: demon bad, demon hurt main character, demon tracked, demon killed.
It is obvious that the author does not know any gay men - take it from me we are not into the "will he be my soul mate" stuff before we root! Two gay guys sharing a bed would not be content with a simple cuddle! Writing gay men as if we are women in male bodies is not the way to make up a character. It would have been better to make the main character a woman - and make her bad ass. Unfortunately the author would still make her out to be a sullen teenager with bad communication skills.
There are only a few characters in the story so there if you don't warm to the main characters then you will have little to interest you. And the characters that are introduced are one dimensional place holders. Ex boyfriend - bad! Chief of police - grumpy, Brother - petulant child etc, even the villain has a lisp OMG did not see that one coming NOT!
Also if the phrase "you are mine, baby . . ." does not warn you to run away from this book then I do not know what else I can say to save you the pain of reading this utter trash of a novel - apart from  SPOILER HERE - the fact that the villain is introduced in the same chapter he is killed at the end of the story.
OMG spend your hard earned cash somewhere else.

Oh wow. This book was beautiful. I loved Ailin and Seb's characters as well as the animals, especially Sera the cat.

The storyline was awesome and I couldn't stop reading it. I'm so looking forward to the next book in the series.

Well that's a start

That's one way to introduce a new world to someone! Seb and Al are drawn together even while AL has to introduce Seb into the new world, some I wish he would have opened sooner to cause less strikes to a man who hasn't really ever had anyone. The book keeps you entwined from start to finish (and can I say thankfully this is complete or I'd be a not happy camper right now). The pain is palpable, and this journey has just begun. I can't help but fear what is next in store for these characters.

That's it. Michele Notaro is one of my most favorite authors after this. I've already started reading her Magi Accounts series and loooooved it. Then I read the short story from [b:Fated Mates: an MM Paranormal Romance Charity Anthology|145526088|Fated Mates an MM Paranormal Romance Charity Anthology|Kiki Clark|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1682996789l/145526088._SY75_.jpg|160859376] and loved it so so much that I decided to delve into the Ellwood Chronicles universe. And wow. I finished the book in like 6 hours.

I just love the way this author creates an amazing paranormal world with romance that is not simply as a background, or something secondary. No. The romance is slow but interwoven throughout the whole book. And I loved it to bits.

Ailin was such an interesting character. Yes, he often omits information, or does some things without Seb's consent (never sexually). But I loved his protectiveness and care he had for Seb. Seb was such a strong character. If I went through what he did, I'd just curl into a ball and want to die, because the ending was just gut wrenching. And the ending overall? Amazing. I cannot wait for the rest of the series.

About the Book: Brinnswick is shaken by horrifying ritualistic murders. Victims are left bloodless, mutilated, with strange markings on their bodies. Just the way Sebastian’s partner and lover has died. So when his chief pairs him with strange and a little annoying Ailin Ellwood, Sebastian is determined to suffer through what comes to get to the bottom of this. Luckily, Ailin, as strange as he is, turns out to be plenty useful. Soon they find that there were way more murders like this than they were led to believe. Someone’s covering up that psychopath.

My Opinion: The book is well written, but not very interesting in itself. I mean, from the top of your head, how many books you can name me that have: an orphan hero, abandoned as a baby, with strange marking on their body, who then turn out to be the last/powerful something, fairy, alien, princess, sorcerer? Yeah. This is one of those.

I won’t complain, it wasn’t bad, and I’ll read the next book too, since I have it. This one gets a 3 out of 5 though.

Not the greatest fan when it comes to the writing style. Too plain, crude and unsophisticated. It honestly feels like some badly written fanfiction. The two main characters are just plain stupid sometimes and it pisses me off. The lack of communication, consent and overbearing possessiveness are the most problematic things. I think I'll finish this series just because I'm curious to know how far the author is going to drag this and I own the sequels anyway.

Molto carino, niente di troppo pretenzioso abbastanza scorrevole, mi è sembrato un po’ un romanzo di introduzione a questo mondo, è un po’ breve forse ma comunque non mi è dispiaciuto leggerlo.
P.s. Seb e A che cute ❤️

4.5 - while parts were a little cheesy read out loud, I still loved the feel of this book. There’s magic and action, love and humour. I look forward to the next book.
