Cute, cozy, clean Christmas-y romance!
lighthearted fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

I dont think this author is for me. I didn't enjoy the writing style, I didn't connect to any of the main characters, I was bored. And I didn't feel like the conclusions even made sense. It's a romance, but even after reading it I have no idea why. Like..... they loved each other? Weird, definitely didn't feel that between them.

Light, simple romance.

Main character was pretty dumb. I also dislike how they got engaged but never even had sex. They were grownups but things never got intimate. Kinda strange.

Meh. Felt that the relationship between Palmer and Josie was all telling and no showing. The months that they connected are just told to you. No flashback scenes etc. Made for a really boring romance.

I hate that Josie's dreams are the ones that have to be challenged in order for her and Palmer to work. Palmer never has to take a look at his life and change anything. And we're supposed to like him because he helps her get back to Seattle in the book's beginning?

And WHAT was up with the interaction between Jack and Josie's mom. That was so bizarre and completely strange.

Wanted to check out this light holiday read from a local (to me) author. This is the second bust in a row I’ve had by this author. She doesn’t have the magic she once had from her earlier books. I was hoping it would be something similar to the Midnight Sons series she had set in Alaska.

In the small town of Ponder, Alaska, things close up during the winter and only a few people stay behind when the town closes up. This is the exact reason why Josie needs to make sure she gets on the last ferry so she can get to her new sous chef job in Seattle. But with a bumbling proposal and a night of tossing and turning, the ferry leaves without her. But now does Palmer have time to woo her correctly and make up for the horrible proposal? Or will Josie find another way to get to Seattle, even though her heart is still in Alaska? With adorable characters and a storyline that had me laughing out loud and hoping for a HEA this was a great read. Once again Debbie Macomber creates characters we cannot help but fall in love with them.

Alaskan Holiday by Debbie Macomber
Alternating chapters of each of the main characters, book is located at Ponder, Alaska.
Josie had been hired at the lodge and her time was up-the lodge was shutting down and she was heading back to Seattle.
Love the events for no special reason why the community gets together.
Story also follows Palmer who is a worker and the lodge and he favors Josie and wants her to stay but he can't express himself in words. He knows her suitcases are packed.
His sister Alicia and she's asking if he's going to propose to Josie. Love hearing how they were raised near the Arctic Circle.
Like all the food combinations and Palmer's career, priceless being able to use her hands to make a living. Like hearing about his work.
Love hearing of the salmon ping pong game LOL lots of fun travel described. He finishes his project and wants to deliver it before Christmas. He and Jack make plans and things don't go according to plan.
She is so innovative and creative. Great holiday read when things are so unpredictable.
Inclues an excerpt from another book by the author. About the author is listed at the end.
Received this review copy from andom House Publishing Group - Ballantine via Netgalley and this is my honest opinion.

This story was such a sweet holiday romance!

So, I thought this was a Christmas romance set in Alaska. I’ve not been feeling the holiday spirit, and I thought if I picked up this book I might feel a little more holiday cheer! The cover is so cute and Christmas-y! I mean, look at those little husky puppies! But honestly I just feel a little cheated. This book is not really a holiday novel, nor does a good chunk of it take place in Alaska. ⁣

The plot was fine. We follow Josie Avery, a chef who has taken a summer assignment cooking at a lodge in Ponder, Alaska, prior to accepting a sous-chef position in Seattle. While she is in Ponder she falls in love with Palmer Saxon, local swordsmith and stereotypical lumberjack-type. When the summer ends and she is supposed to head back to Seattle, disaster strikes and Josie misses her boat out of Ponder. But she is determined to get back to her career and not let her fling with Palmer distract her… except that when she does eventually get back to Seattle she finds that she feels more strongly for Palmer than she ever realized. And she finds that the job is not everything she thought it would be. Now Josie has to reconcile what she thought her life would be with what her heart wants.⁣

My main issue with this novel is that the reader is plopped into the plot after a lot of the action has already occurred. Macomber seems to rely a lot on info-dumps and telling the reader what each of these characters is like, rather than showing it and letting them feel it for themselves. We don’t get to watch Josie and Palmer fall in love but are just told that they already are, and the chemistry is really lacking.⁣

Did I mention that it’s not a holiday story? Christmas isn’t even mentioned until the last chapter of the book, and it ends before we even get to the actual holiday. Also, the majority of the book actually takes place in Seattle. Overall this story just felt forced and like false advertising. I’m disappointed, especially because this is my first Debbie Macomber book, and I don’t know if I’ll be picking up another.⁣
