I don't really trust booktok reviews, it's often more than just a hit or miss, sometimes it's just the stories that people quite never experienced when reading was still considered boring and fit for crony women. So naturally when people suggested this over and over and over again, I quite ignored them, but eventually I picked it up somehow and started to read through the first chapter but just could't get through it, eventually it had been in my TBR pile for the longest time.
I gave it another shot, and forced myself through the first three chapters, and surprisingly enough it started slowly creeping up to intrigue me, and eventually I was off.
Although the writing was quite hard to wrap my head around, especially for a fantasy genre, I decided to read it from a Rick Riordan novel point of view and that worked out. I quite liked how the characters were portrayed and written, the FMC was headstrong and somewhat annoying but just enough to fuel the plot, and the MMC had quite a good added development to the novel that I really liked.
Most of all, finally an enemies to lovers trope where they are actual enemies instead of the substandard stereotypical just-annoyed-by-each-other-for-no-good-reason to lovers trope that I absolutely abhor.

Many people praise this story as one with a "morally grey" MMC, but this just a character who quite literally bullies and abuses the FMC for the majority of the book. And she kisses him despite that? We calling that romance now? The world and politics were engaging, but the writing itself felt rudimentary and too juvenile to me. I'm sure this book is for many people, but it wasn't for me!

Here's the thing. This was incredibly unique, absolutely unpredictable, action-packed book.
And I thought it was just fine.
First of all, the very first thing that happens is this dude comes in a murders the FMCs parents right in front of her and her siblings and then he takes them all and raises them as his own. This is RARELY mentioned for the vast majority of the book. They have an actually father/daughter relationship. Bizarre and inconceivable to me.
The MMC is terrible. He's a cruel bully that I do not understand how were supposed to root for. Just wow. What a POS.
But I was not bored once. I didn't know where things were going ever. and though some decisions were off-the-rails most could be chalked up to these are teens. Which is why I should really stay away from YA. Teens be doing the dumbest things.
I want to know what happens next... but I'll probably just google it.

No me empezó a parecer interesante hasta las últimas 150 páginas, tiene un buen enganche para la continuación de la historia. El desarrollo de Jude me ha gustado, verla con tantos sentimientos y conflictos entre los mismos la hacen sentir más real.

It was okay, I found the plot twists in the book were a bit odd. Taryn is weird and Jude is annoying but it did have me hooked so 3.5
Pleasantly surprised by this book. Was an unexpected story, and a quick read. And it’s the kind of fanciful fantasy world building that I love! The kind of things you imagine when you’re a kid.
