I have tried to finish this like 3 times. I don't understand how I can enjoy her J Lynn books so much but her Jennifer L Armentrout books are always a serious slog for me. Why is the heroine so stupid?
I love how this book gave us the perspective from the Arum. I found it really interesting and it made me understand the world better. I know that this doesn't need to be read along with the Lux series, but I really do recommend that people read it because it shows how complex these being really are. Of course don't read this if you're a little 14 year old or something because this is not right for you. Maybe in another 5 years at least haha.
But I mean who would've guessed that I could care for an Arum? It made me feel like the Luxen were the bad guys. But I guess this just goes to show you that nothing is ever black and white. It's all about the gray zone.
I didn't really like Serena all that much. She was so stubborn and really stupid at points. Like really stupid. I get the whole "I don't want to be bossed around" thing and whatnot but it was a bit much. She seriously walked into danger every time.
My one other complaint is that there weren't any indications when it changed pov. I mean I got it when it did change because of the "she" to "he" or vice versa, and because their tones were a bit different, but it would've been nice to have a little indication thing. Not a big deal in the scope of things but it would've been nice.

As a big fan of the Lux series and an ever bigger fan of Daemon Black I was all WHOA Hold the phone Hunter is an Arum there is no way I am going to like this guy when in Obsidian(Lux 1) I nearly had a heart attack when any Arum were around. I have to admit it though HUNTER is awesome, his whity banter back and forth with Serena had me soften to him from the get go even though he was Arum.
“Are you done acting like a psychotic, cracked out Muppet baby?"
This book also deals with older characters so the book has a bit of a sex appeal to it which we all know when added with an alpha cocky male = very good things.
For instance "I want to hear you scream my name.”
Then of course we got a special visit from Luc in the book and as before is the same little smart ass punk. Don't worry I wont ruin it and tell you if any mention of our favourite Lux characters pop up.
The one thing I really liked also about this book was giving things from the Arum's side as in any war not everyone wants the absolute power.
So I leave this by saying READ THE BOOK ITS GREAT!

3 and 1/2.
I thought I would love this one, I have always enjoyed J.L.Armentrout's work and I thought this wouldn't be any different.
I was wrong, I mean, I liked it, I found some bits and pieces very interesting but the whole thing didn't work for me.
The "I am too dangerous to be around you but can't help myself and so I endanger you whenever possible cause I like you but I want to eat you anyway"....you get what I mean, right?
I kind of got bored at times and that's never good.
Hunter owns 1 star by himself and then some more....he is super hot, Serenna....gosh! If I had the power of strungling fictional characters I would have finished her before any Luxen.

I finished this book with a wow. The writing was just amazing, hot and steamy and really kept me intrigued throughout the whole of the book. The characters are so captivating and the conflict is so well written within the story. I love the whole book and it added a different aspect to the world from their POV.
HOTDAMN!!
This was a smoking hot read!
Move over Deamon, I think I'm in love with Hunter now!!
I loved that this was different from the Lux series, that we got to see things from the perspective of an Arum instead of the Luxen and how we learnt that not all Arum were evil and not all Luxen were good. Both species had shades of grey and I found that very interesting.
I kind of squealed when they went to see Luc, was that Deamon that Hunter got into a confrontation with?? HE'S LOOKING FOR KATY!!! Anyway, I loved that Luc was in this, I little crossovers between books never hurts when you get to learn more about a minimal character (hopefully there is moer Luc in Origin, I love that little shithead!)
Hunter and Serena together...whoa.... that's all I'll say here.... whoa
