HOLY MOLY!!!! DAMN THIS BOOK WAS AMAZING! Honestly I have a huge crush on Hunter in this book and I loved that we were able to see this side of the Arum and explore more of the Lux universe. Honestly I may love this standalone better then the Lux series. This book is just perfection and Hunter gives me all the feels with Serena. Definitely recommend this book and you don’t have to read the Lux series to read this book. Definitely more steamy than the Lux series but it was amazing

Really enjoyable & hot! Left me wanting more for sure. It was neat to see the Arum way from their own POV.

Good lawd. It's been a while since I've read this book. I'm ashamed of that because this book is hot. Like HOT.

I've read pretty much all of JLA's books and I completely forgot how sexy this one was. I completely forgot how drool-worthy Hunter was. I forgot how badass he was. And Serena was sweet, feisty, and so considerate.

I adored this look into the opposite side of the Luxen/Arum conundrum. Both sides have good and bad...aliens.

But really, I loved the romance the most. How Hunter fought it but then went all badass against the evil Luxen bastards. I loved seeing old characters and seeing the other side.

Seriously. If you read the Lux series, you NEED to read this one.

Why I chose this book:
I have been on a Jennifer Armentrout binge. No lie. I think I have read 7 books of hers in a row, and I plan on reading more. This one piqued my interest because not only is it NA (which I really need to begin reading more of), but it is also a companion novel to the Lux series.

3 things you need to know about this book:

1. Different side of the Arum.

This book provides a completely different side to the story. An Arum is actually the main protagonist in the story, not a Luxen. This alone was enough to intrigue me. The Arum is definitely a different kind of character to write about in comparison to the Luxen; they’re darker, mysterious, and even more dangerous, but it’s not all bad. In this companion novel, not all Luxen are good, not all Arum are bad, and the DOD is still trying to control everything.

2. Hunter and Serena
Sometimes I find that I have major issues with their relationship, especially when it comes to sex. Yes, Hunter is a darker character and is prone to darker urges, but that should not in anyway be an excuse for some of his behavior. Feeling her up in her sleep without her permission? Yeah, no. That’s not okay in my book. I don’t care how much lust he sees in her aura, that still shouldn’t be permissible. That’s like feeling up a drunk girl. However, I will say that the rest is consensual.

The romance is purely based on sex, and that bothers me a lot. Serena is always commenting on how hot he is and his 6-pack abs and blah blah blah (it seems like practically all of Armentrout’s books feature ripped male characters). There is a lot of objectification in this book, which bothers me. Hot sex is not the only thing that should matter in a relationship, and to say (only after a little less than a week) that they’ve fallen in love sounds just a bit off. Also, there were times that I felt like they were both objectifying the other in order to fulfill their sexual needs, especially at the beginning. They both just wanted to get off, so when ‘love’ entered the scene it felt a little misplaced, because it was suddenly like they began to care for each other, but it was still based on sex without knowing much about the other person.

3. Decent plot arc.
There’s enough to consider this a thriller novel, and I liked that part of it. It was exciting. There was always something going on and there were never any dull moments.

Final Thoughts:
If you’ve read Armentrout’s Lux series, this is definitely something that you might want to think about picking up. It shows a completely different side of the Arum which I found increasingly intriguing, since we honestly don’t know much about them. And the role reversal of Arum and Luxen was enough to make me want to pick up another one of a Lux companion novel. For people who have no desire to read the Lux series, or haven’t read them at all, I wouldn’t recommend this book. It’s a companion novel and can be read first, last or in-between books in the actual series, but I don’t think the reader would appreciate it as much.

First of all I hate all the covers of the Lux books and this Arum novel.
Secondly I really liked this book because it gave us the other side of the story. This world is too rich and complicated for things to be black and white and that's what we're shown here. It was difficult at the beginning to tolerate the very dark very unapologetic hero, but you slowly come to terms with this one massive spot of gray hero. The heroin is slightly gray herself, she wanted revenge and she didn't care what that said about her, I found her stance refreshing, not sure what that says about me.
I just enjoyed this novel. I enjoyed struggling with my feelings for the hero, when you read a novel you're just ready to fall in love with or at least like the hero, so it was enjoyable to struggle with this gray hero, I didn't hate him! But I felt horrible for liking such a "monster" like that.. If any of what I'm saying is making sense.. I feel like it never does..

JLA has done it again bringing us a story that wraps you up from beginning to end and keeps you wanting more! If you are a fan of the Luxen world then you know that this book from the Luxen world but told from an Arum POV, and not just nay Arum, its from Hunter, one of the most powerful and hottest of his kind. Kinda like another alien we know and love, who makes a very small appearance(sqee).

Hunter is basically going through life as the DOD's bitch boy, being the arrogant and cocky bastard that he is until his latest assignment is forced upon him. Serena Cross witnessed her best friend murdered by none other than our beloved Luxen who are the actual bad guys in this novel! I know! We see a whole new evil side to them. I read this book after Opal, which I wasn't excited about because I wanted to know what would happen to Katy. But I trust JLA's suggestion to read this in between Opal and Origin.

I was NOT disappointed. This book was exactly the type of break I needed from all that heaviness and YA material. Sexy, fun, and addictive. I'm now #teamhunter for life.
