This was super good! Incredibly fast paced! I’d call it more of a mystery/thriller than a horror, but it was definitely still thrilling. No one was what they seemed to be at first. I thought the mysteries were woven really smartly. Multiple characters made me absolutely FURIOUS, and that was exactly the author’s intention! While other characters were unexpectedly kind to our protagonist.

Bram is fleeing the city to get away from her past and her controlling mother, so she’s staying with her uncle at his small town manor. However, the manor is alleged to be cursed and the locals do not take kindly to outsiders.

It took me a little bit to get into this. We are not told the situation that caused Bram to leave and that adds to the mystery of it all.  Everything is explained at an appropriate time and all the loose ends are fairly tied up, which is always appreciated. I hate when there are lasting questions and I don’t have that. (Except the really random question of what is Bram’s real name, if “Bram” is a nickname derived from her father’s name?)

I almost wish this book did have an actual ghost. I was kind of hoping for more horror, although it’s definitely a great thriller.

This was not at all what I thought it was going to be. It feels like a slog now trying to get through it so I am not wasting my time with this anymore.

Received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

A captivating thriller that follows Bram, a girl kicked out of her mother's house in NYC for mysterious reasons we eventually find out as the story unfolds. Bram's sent to live with her uncle whom she hasn't seen in a decade, only to find out his wife died mysteriously months earlier. Bram discovers more mysteries surrounding the mansion she and her uncle live in.

A really fun mystery novel that was entertaining from beginning to end. Only issue I had was that the ending wrapped up a bit too quickly for my taste but it was a well-written ending regardless. I liked that we couldn't really "like" a character in the book, all of them couldn't trust each other and thus kept showing their worst sides. Not to say no one's completely unlikeable, but it works very well for this mystery. Excellent writing overall!
