stopped at like 30 pages — ok the visuals are rly pretty and creative but 1) too much text for a graphic novel I think (even an adult one) ??, and (most importantly) 2) what in the self pitying white guilt is this ??????? hellooooo???????

The way she told the story through photos, illustrations, documents, and more was very very intriguing and engaging.

The book was definitely uncomfortable to read like anything related to the Nazi's regime usually is. I am glad somebody told me about this book so I could learn more.

Overall, well worth it to read.

4.5 this graphic memoir makes perhaps some if the best and most interesting visual choices i have ever seen in such a book. its use of collage, interjecting pages, overlapping images, color, and images spanning across pages is incredibly effective in aiding the written word of this story. i was especially struck by the spread of her fathers and uncles images being split along the front and back of the page so the reader must turn the page to see the second image. the story itself is interesting and handled well. as an american who has been studying german for almost ten years now it was very interesting to read a first hand perspective of the impact of the nazis on someone removed from the time period.

Very interesting. I especially enjoyed the visual style of Nora Krug, making it seem almost like a personal journal.
